Sr. Category Manager – External Talent

Our client is seeking a Sr. Category Manager to join their company for a 1-year contract position. The ideal candidate will have experience running or leading IT focused large-scale contingent workforce programs, ideally in a technical or consulting environment.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead an enterprise-wide External Talent category encompassing hundreds of suppliers across non-technical contingent workers and advisor engagements.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive category strategy that drives financial value, ensures policy and regulatory compliance, and supports broader business goals.
  • Define the long-term strategic direction for the External Worker and Advisor categories through forward-looking planning and market insights.
  • Build and maintain strong partnerships with business leaders, procurement, HR, and top-tier/niche external workforce suppliers.
  • Drive innovation and efficiency in how external workers and advisors are sourced, managed, and engaged across the organization.
  • Identify and act on opportunities to rationalize the supplier landscape, consolidate spend, and strengthen strategic supplier relationships.
  • Optimize cost, quality, and performance by improving contract structures, rate management, and risk mitigation processes.
  • Ensure invoice accuracy and audit readiness through disciplined supplier governance and compliance oversight.
  • Implement supplier performance management and strategic sourcing initiatives to streamline operations and unlock economies of scale.

What Gets You the Job:

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree (e.g., MBA, PhD) or equivalent practical experience strongly preferred.
  • 7 years of experience in sourcing, category management, procurement, or consulting, with a strong track record of delivering business value.
  • Proven experience in managing a large global contingent workforce program is preferred
  • Proven ability to assess complex problems, synthesize insights, and drive data-backed decisions. Skilled in creating and interpreting analytical outputs, including Excel models and category performance reports.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messages to a variety of audiences and seniority levels. Comfortable presenting to and influencing senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to produce high-quality deliverables, including PowerPoint presentations, sourcing documentation, contract summaries, and other written materials that support decision-making.
