POSITION SUMMARY(Basic purpose or primary function of job)

The Digital Writer creates clear, compelling digital content that puts the needs, motivations and benefits for our audiences first — empowering people to take action, stay engaged and feel supported at every touchpoint with the Arthritis Foundation.

This role specializes in high-performing, primarily short-form content across the Foundation’s digital ecosystem, including website content (mobile and desktop) and email, and potentially, as appropriate, social media, SMS and emerging digital platforms. The Digital Writer excels at translating complex health information into concise, human-centered, action-oriented copy that is easy to scan, easy to understand and designed to drive meaningful engagement, conversions and audience growth.

Grounded in current digital writing trends and best practices, the Digital Writer brings strong, evolving expertise in search engine optimization (SEO), generative engine optimization (GEO) and other performance-driven content development, with a focus on maximizing visibility and reach. The Digital Writer continuously monitors trends, applies data-informed insights and refines content to meet or exceed performance goals.

While the primary focus is digital, this role also applies strong storytelling and creative writing expertise across additional formats as needed, including print materials, ads, scripts and other communications.

Working collaboratively across the Marketing & Communications team and with internal and external stakeholders, the Digital Writer helps ensure that all content aligns with the Foundation’s brand voice, strategic priorities and audience needs — delivering clear, impactful messaging in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES(Principal responsibilities or job duties)

  • Develop and execute engaging, high-quality, short-form digital content for web and email, and potentially social media, SMS and other current and emerging platforms.
  • Apply advanced SEO and GEO best practices to optimize content for search visibility, user engagement and conversion.
  • Write clear, concise, compelling and grammatically correct copy aligned with brand voice and organizational goals.
  • Continuously analyze content performance and refine messaging using data, insights and evolving digital trends.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts (SMEs) to translate complex health and mission-driven information into accessible, audience-friendly content.
  • Ensure consistency, accuracy and quality across all deliverables, including adherence to Associated Press (AP) Style and Arthritis Foundation-specific writing style and standards guidelines.
  • Adapt messaging across multiple formats and audience segments while maintaining clarity and effectiveness.
  • Contribute to content strategy discussions, bringing forward innovative ideas for digital engagement and growth.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, meeting deadlines and maintaining high standards of quality.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Marketing, Communications or related field.
  • 5+ years of professional writing and content development experience across digital platforms.

  • Strong knowledge of SEO/GEO principles, keyword strategy and content optimization techniques.
  • Exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills, with a strong command of grammar and AP Style.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines and adapt in a fast-paced environment, including successfully working with a robust project management system.
  • Experience writing for and about health care issues, for a medical-related and/or nonprofit organization(s), is a plus.
