You work closely with content writers and editors, and your review may be the final step before the text is published. As a content reviewer, you may work in the office setting or remotely, and may be on the staff or work freelance on a short- or long-term contract basis.

What does a content reviewer do?

A Content Reviewer is responsible for evaluating and moderating user-generated content on websites, social media platforms, or other online services to ensure it complies with company policies and community guidelines. • Optimize online content for readability, audience engagement, searchability, and SEO.
  • Ensure all web pages and online content comply with Section 508 accessibility requirements.
  • Write and revise alternative text for images, graphics, and other non-text elements.
  • Coordinate web content reviews and approvals with FHWA points of contact, web managers, program offices, legal reviewers, public affairs staff, and external stakeholders when needed.
  • Monitor web pages to ensure updates are posted on schedule and recommend improvements to readability, organization, navigation, and usability.
  • Support quarterly certification processes to confirm that web content is current and accurate.
  • Check and fix broken links, formatting issues, outdated information, and other web maintenance items.
  • Use graphic applications to crop, recolor, resize, and manipulate web images as needed.
  • Provide outreach training, user training, and support materials related to web content processes and tools.
  • Coordinate content processes, procedures, workflow improvements, and documentation.

  • At least 3 years of recent web content management experience within the last 5 years.
  • Experience writing and editing web content, training materials, documentation, and digital communications.
  • Experience using content management systems to upload, maintain, and post content.
  • Knowledge of Section 508 accessibility requirements for web and digital content.
  • Experience performing content quality control and data/content review.
  • Ability to use presentation tools and provide training or outreach support to staff.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Drupal, SharePoint, Google Sites, Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, or similar web/collaboration platforms.
  • Transportation, highway, surface transportation, research, science, engineering, or technical communications experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with web content databases, online records, metadata, and public release workflows.
  • Basic image editing experience for web graphics.
