What does a content reviewer do?

Content reviewers review, edit, and proofread online or printed content. Before a company can publish content, such as ads, email templates, written text, and other online information, a content reviewer is in charge of ensuring that the material is accurate, high-quality, free of errors, and appropriate for the intended audience. You work closely with content writers and editors, and your review may be the final step before the text is published. As a content reviewer, you may work in the office setting or remotely, and may be on the staff or work freelance on a short- or long-term contract basis.

What does a content reviewer do?

A Content Reviewer is responsible for evaluating and moderating user-generated content on websites, social media platforms, or other online services to ensure it complies with company policies and community guidelines. Their duties often include reviewing text, images, videos, and other media for inappropriate or harmful material, spam, or violations of terms of service. Content Reviewers help maintain a safe and positive online environment by flagging or removing content that does not meet standards. They may also provide feedback to improve content quality and consistency.

What skills do you need to be a content reviewer?

To thrive as a Content Reviewer, you need strong attention to detail, excellent language proficiency, and familiarity with content guidelines, often supported by a relevant degree or experience in communications or linguistics. Proficiency with content management systems (CMS), moderation platforms, and workflow tracking tools is typically required. Critical thinking, cultural awareness, and effective communication are key soft skills that help navigate complex content decisions and provide constructive feedback. These skills and qualities are crucial to ensure content accuracy, brand consistency, and compliance with legal and community standards.

What are some of the most common challenges faced by content reviewers, and how can they effectively address them?

Content Reviewers often encounter challenges such as handling large volumes of user-generated content, making quick yet accurate decisions, and dealing with sensitive or disturbing material. To manage these challenges, it's important to develop strong attention to detail, stay updated on platform policies, and utilize support resources provided by the employer. Many organizations also offer training and mental health support to help reviewers maintain well-being and high performance in this fast-paced environment.

Stand Together

Arlington, VA

Full-time

Re-posted 22 days ago

Job description

Stand Together is a philanthropic community that helps America's boldest changemakers tackle the root causes of our country's biggest problems, from education to the economy, broken communities, and toxic division, among dozens of other pressing issues. We provide our partners with access to resources including funding, thought leadership, a network of peers, and a playbook for applying proven principles to transform lives and society.

As the Content and Communications Specialist on the Stand Together Foundation team, you will play a key role in two critical parts of our work: first, in creating and coordinating content that appears across various communication channels, and second, in supporting the narrative-focused learning experiences we create for our partners. Both contributions are critical for elevating the work of the nonprofit leaders and changemakers we work alongside.

You will thrive in this role if you are a strong writer and editor who enjoys coordinating across multiple stakeholders, bringing structure to creative work, and helping ideas and stories reach the audiences who can benefit from them most.

This role is a force multiplier for the team. Your work will strengthen content creation processes, improve operational consistency, and help create the conditions for scalable, high-quality storytelling, and learning.

How You Will Contribute

 Content and Communication Development

  • Coordinate the development, organization, and publishing of content across various communication channels, including websites, social media platforms, earned media, and printed materials.

  • Support storytelling efforts that highlight the work and impact of nonprofit leaders, partners, and changemakers.

  • Copy edit and review content to ensure clarity, consistency, brand alignment, and accurate representation of partners and initiatives.

  • Support cross-functional collaboration with internal stakeholders to ensure content and communications align with organizational and narrative priorities.

  • Help maintain content calendars, content workflows, and publishing timelines across multiple platforms and initiatives.

  • Identify and implement process improvements that strengthen communication workflows, content operations, and audience engagement.

  • Collaborate with team members to test and refine content and engagement strategies.

Learning and Program Operations

  • Support the coordination and execution of cohort-based learning experiences and individualized 1:1 coaching engagements (virtual and in-person) from onboarding through completion. These learning experiences all focus on narrative discovery and storytelling.

  • Help maintain a consistent voice and narrative approach across communications and learning materials.

  • Support learning session facilitators with session preparation, participant communications, and operational workflows to ensure a seamless experience.

  • Maintain and contribute to shared knowledge systems on Salesforce and Airtable.

What You Will Bring
  • 3-5 years of experience supporting content creation, storytelling, communications initiatives, and/or learning materials.

  • Strong writing, copy editing (AP style), and verbal communication skills.

  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, especially across multiple projects and timelines.

  • Comfort managing systems, workflows, and operational processes while maintaining accurate records and tracking data.

  • A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset with a bias toward improving how work gets done.

  • Collaborative team player who works effectively across departments and stakeholder groups.

  • Passion for storytelling, learning, community building, and supporting nonprofit leaders and changemakers.

  • Enthusiasm to contribute to Stand Together's vision and principled approach to solving problems, and a commitment to stewarding our culture, which champions values including transformation and innovation, entrepreneurialism, humility, and respect.

    •
Standout Candidates Will Bring
  • Experience with Airtable and Salesforce.

  • Experience supporting communications strategy, learning programs, or editorial workflows.

  • A love of systems improvement, operational excellence, and automation.

  • Experience working with nonprofit organizations, mission-driven organizations, or technology-enabled teams.

What We Offer
  • Competitive benefits: Enjoy a 6% 401(k) match with immediate vesting, flexible time off, comprehensive health and dental plans, plus wellness and mental health support through Peloton and Talkspace.
  • A meaningful career: Join a passionate community of over 1,400 employees dedicated to improving lives and driving innovative solutions to complex social challenges.
  • Commitment to growth: Thrive in a non-hierarchical environment that empowers employees to discover, develop and apply their unique talents.
  • Competitive compensation: Our approach rewards the value you create through competitive salaries and bonus opportunities, allowing you to share in the success you help drive.
$70,000 - $95,000 a year

For this role, the anticipated base salary range is $70,000-$95,000 per year. This role may also be eligible for additional bonus compensation designed to align total compensation with an employee's overall contribution to the organization.

Our Principles-Based Management (PBM) compensation philosophy is grounded in an individualized approach that rewards the long-term value each person creates for the organization. Compensation decisions are informed by a variety of factors, including relevant experience, capabilities, demonstrated skills, role responsibilities, and expected contribution. Consistent with this approach, base salary may vary within or outside of the anticipated range based on these considerations.

Our Values: Working for an organization within the Stand Together philanthropic community is different from many other places. The culture is deeply rooted in Principle Based Management (PBM), a framework guided by the principles that drive human progress, such as dignity, openness, and bottom-up empowerment. PBM empowers employees to be entrepreneurial, to innovate, and to continually drive transformation.

We believe diversity fuels creativity, broadens knowledge, and helps drive success.  That is why we're proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer and strive to treat all employees and applicants with honesty, dignity, and respect.
