Content Proofreader information

What is a content proofreader?

Content Proofreaders are professionals who review written materials to identify and correct errors in grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting. They ensure that content is clear, consistent, and free of mistakes before it is published or shared. Proofreaders often work on articles, marketing materials, websites, books, and other documents to maintain high-quality standards. Their attention to detail helps protect the credibility and professionalism of the organization or individual they work for.

What skills and qualifications are needed to thrive as a content proofreader?

To thrive as a Content Proofreader, you need excellent command of grammar, spelling, and punctuation, often supported by a degree in English, journalism, or a related field. Familiarity with style guides (such as AP or Chicago), track changes in word processing software, and proofreading tools like Grammarly are commonly required. Strong attention to detail, time management, and clear communication help a proofreader excel in this role. These skills ensure error-free, polished content that meets quality standards and maintains a professional image for clients or employers.

How does a content proofreader typically collaborate with writers and editors during the content review process?

Content Proofreaders work closely with writers and editors to ensure the final content is polished and error-free. They often receive drafts from writers, carefully check for grammar, spelling, punctuation, and formatting issues, and suggest changes or corrections. Regular communication with editors helps clarify editorial guidelines and resolve any ambiguities. This collaborative process ensures consistency in tone and style across all content, and helps maintain high-quality standards within the team.

What is the difference between Content Proofreader vs Content Editor?

AspectContent ProofreaderContent Editor
Primary RoleReview and correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and style errorsRevise and improve overall content structure, clarity, and flow
Skills & CertificationsStrong language skills, attention to detail, style guides knowledgeEditing skills, content development, sometimes additional certifications
Work EnvironmentFreelance, publishing houses, media companiesPublishing, marketing agencies, content teams

While both roles focus on improving written content, a Content Proofreader primarily corrects language errors, whereas a Content Editor makes broader content improvements and structural edits. Proofreading is often the final step before publication, while editing involves more in-depth content development.

Job description

Proofreader

InnoVision Marketing Group

San Diego, CA | Mandatory In-Office

At InnoVision Marketing Group, proudly known as The Anti-Agencyโ„ข, details matter. A single typo, formatting issue, or missed inconsistency can impact how a brand is perceived. We are looking for a Proofreader who understands that precision is not a small thing. It is part of the standard.

This role is responsible for reviewing and quality-checking a wide range of materials across digital, print, broadcast, social media, presentations, websites, proposals, and client communications. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, organized, and takes genuine pride in catching the things others miss.

This is a critical role within the organization. The Proofreader serves as one of the final layers of quality control before work leaves the building.

What Youโ€™ll Do

As a Proofreader, you will work closely with creative, account service, media, digital, PR, and production teams to ensure all deliverables are accurate, polished, and client-ready.

Your responsibilities include:

* Proofreading and quality-checking creative materials across print, digital, broadcast, social, presentations, websites, and internal communications

* Reviewing spelling, grammar, punctuation, syntax, formatting, consistency, and brand standards

* Ensuring accuracy of phone numbers, URLs, disclaimers, legal copy, dates, pricing, and calls-to-action

* Verifying consistency in tone, messaging, capitalization, spacing, and style usage

* Reviewing layouts and visual executions for alignment between copy and design

* Checking revisions carefully to ensure requested edits were completed correctly

* Supporting quality assurance processes before materials are released or published

* Communicating corrections clearly and professionally with internal teams

* Maintaining awareness of client-specific preferences, standards, and style guidelines

* Assisting with final review of presentations, proposals, and important outbound communications

This role requires someone who can stay focused, methodical, and highly accurate in a fast-paced environment with multiple deadlines and moving parts.

What Makes a Great Team Member at InnoVision Marketing Group

We can teach process. We cannot teach discipline or attention to detail. The people who thrive in this role consistently demonstrate:

* Exceptional attention to detail

* Strong command of grammar, punctuation, and language mechanics

* Patience and consistency in repetitive review work

* Accountability and follow-through

* Calm focus under pressure and tight deadlines

* Professional communication skills

* Strong organizational habits

* Pride in accuracy and quality control

* Team-first mentality

* High integrity and discretion

This person must genuinely care about getting things right.

Experience & Skills

* Prior proofreading, copyediting, quality control, or related experience preferred

* Strong understanding of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and AP style principles

* Ability to review both long-form and short-form content accurately

* Comfort reviewing materials across multiple formats and platforms

* Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, PDFs, presentation decks, websites, and digital content environments

* Experience with AirTable management software is a plus

* Ability to multitask and prioritize in a deadline-driven environment

* Agency, publishing, media, or marketing experience is a plus

Work Expectations

* Full-time, mandatory in-office role

* Ability to manage multiple reviews and deadlines simultaneously

* Occasional extended hours may be required during high-volume periods

Growth Opportunity

For individuals who demonstrate exceptional consistency, ownership, and operational strength, this role offers opportunity for expanded responsibility within quality assurance, content review, and cross-department workflow support as InnoVision Marketing Group continues to grow.

Why InnoVision Marketing Group

At InnoVision Marketing Group, precision matters because details shape perception. We believe extraordinary work requires extraordinary attention to detail at every level.

If you take pride in accuracy, notice the things others overlook, and want to be part of a team that holds itself to a high standard, we want to meet you.
