What is content optimization?

Content optimization is the process of improving your website's content to make it more appealing and useful to both users and search engines. This involves refining text, images, metadata, and other elements to boost search engine rankings, increase user engagement, and achieve specific business goals. Techniques include keyword integration, improving readability, adding relevant links, and ensuring content is up to date. Effective content optimization helps drive more organic traffic and enhances the overall user experience.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in content optimization, and why are they important?

To thrive in Content Optimization, you need expertise in SEO, keyword research, analytics, and a solid understanding of digital marketing principles, often supported by a degree in marketing, communications, or a related field. Familiarity with tools like Google Analytics, SEMrush, Ahrefs, and various content management systems is typically required. Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, creativity, and effective communication help professionals stand out in this role. These skills ensure content reaches the right audience, performs well in search rankings, and aligns with business goals.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in content optimization roles, and how can they be addressed?

One common challenge in content optimization is balancing SEO requirements with maintaining engaging and natural-sounding content for readers. Professionals often need to collaborate closely with writers, editors, and SEO specialists to ensure content is both discoverable and valuable. Keeping up with frequent changes in search engine algorithms and best practices is also crucial. Addressing these challenges involves ongoing communication with team members, continuous learning, and using analytics tools to measure and refine optimization strategies.

Job description

OVERVIEW

We’re hiring a UX Content Strategist to support digital experiences. This role is ideal for someone who knows how to craft clear, effective product content for complex, transactional journeys and can bring structure, consistency, and strong UX thinking to highly functional customer experiences.

**Please note:** This is not an SEO, marketing copywriting, or technical writing role. We are looking for someone with experience designing UX content across customer journeys, helping users complete tasks quickly and confidently, particularly in flows where clarity, usability, and trust are essential. UX case studies and portfolio samples demonstrating relevant project work will be required for consideration.

Hybrid role - Toronto, ON

Rate - $55-65/hourly (T4 or incorporated eligible)

12 month contract (potential to extend or convert)

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Create content for digital journeys across product customer experiences
  • Support high-utility, transactional flows
  • Design copy that is clear, consistent, and user-centered across full product flows, not just individual screens
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to solve customer problems through content
  • Navigate technical and operational constraints while still delivering the clearest possible experience for users
  • Contribute to a content practice that values rationale, systems thinking, and consistency in patterns and terminology
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 4+ years of experience in UX content design, UX writing, product writing, or content strategy for customer experiences
  • A portfolio that includes at least one strong case study showing the business problem, customer need, your approach, the content solution, and outcomes
  • Ability to write for complex product flows with attention to logic, consistency, and usability
  • Strength in technical utility writing rather than brand or campaign copy
  • Experience working on secure side (post-login) mobile or desktop applications vs. public facing websites
  • Comfort explaining your decisions and walking through your work in interviews and stakeholder discussions
  • Experience working across product teams is helpful - designers, developers, testers, researchers and product owners.

We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, disability status, or other non-merit factor. We are committed to creating a diverse and inclusive environment for all employees.
