Job Purpose:

The Director of Marketing Communications is responsible for helping grow and manage SFH awareness, social engagement, and giving across marketing channels. Acting as a brand champion, this role includes writing, developing, and coordinating direct mail, advertising, marketing literature, website content, social media and video production, as well as public relations responsibilities. This role also oversees vendors, such as advertising agencies, web developers, printers, content writers, and more.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic and dynamic storyteller who understands digital and social metrics. They will be a proven self-starter comfortable working independently and with the Siena Francis House team to innovate and drive results. The candidate will possess strong aesthetic instincts for digital layouts and publishing, an exceptional eye for detail, and a mastery of major social media platforms' tools.

In this role, the individual will be responsible for leading all marketing and communications efforts without a dedicated in-house team. The ideal candidate must be hands-on, with the ability and willingness to take on content development, graphic design, and other marketing tasks directly. Additionally, the individual should be comfortable collaborating with and managing external marketing agencies to achieve the annual marketing plan.

This full-time position reports to the Chief Advancement Officer and is located on our campus at 1401 N. 18th St. The schedule will be 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings and/or weekends.

Essential job Duties:
  • Develop and execute a strategic marketing plan that aligns with the organization's mission and goals; identify new marketing opportunities and potential partnerships.
  • Manage marketing activities within annual budget. Assist in the development of the annual marketing budget, aligning strategies with budget.
  • Create, deliver, edit, and optimize all marketing materials.
  • Ensure that messages are supportive of and consistent with the organization's brand, overall mission and annual plan.
  • Create thoughtful, educational content to ensure current and prospective donors are informed and engaged with our work.
  • Enhance stewardship of donor communications by creating digital follow-up content and campaigns for donors.
  • Identify and execute digital opportunities to inspire our community to fundraise for and partner with the Siena Francis House.
  • Develop toolkits that empower constituents to fundraise digitally for events and other identified appeals/campaigns.
  • Develop and implement a social media marketing campaign to promote the organization and increase participation; deliver content via LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and Google+.
  • Create and deliver all digital and media for both internal and external communications.
  • Coordinate and deliver email campaigns consistent with the direct mail annual plan.
  • Coordinate the writing, design, development, and distribution of all direct mail, including managing relationships with content writers and fulfillment houses to ensure proper content focus and accuracy, as well as on-time delivery.
  • Track media coverage and work to expand and build meaningful relationships with media partners.
  • Act as a media liaison, serving as the main point of contact for all media, and addressing media requests.
  • Write and disseminate all press releases, media alerts and informational documents.
  • Prepare and create all event materials, including PowerPoints, invitations, nametags, materials, gift bags, registration lists, etc.
  • Help maintain the Siena Francis House website by creating and updating content, collaborating with the web developer when necessary.
  • Utilize assessment tools to analyze website performance and identify opportunities for improving the user experience.
  • Create a social media content calendar and develop compelling campaigns that fuel audience and traffic growth.
  • Work with various departments regarding marketing and communication needs and assist with developing specific communications, both internal and external.
  • Manage ad campaigns and digital fundraising strategies.
  • Oversee email lists, segmentation and content development.
  • Analyze social media and email metrics, share results, and adjust strategies based on outcomes.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Demonstrated ability to increase/enhance brand awareness through effective graphic design.
  • Able to work well in a team environment, handle multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of best practices for writing and publishing on various social platforms (especially Facebook and Instagram).
  • Must be a strong communicator, with excellent written, presentation, oral, and interpersonal skills, and the ability to manage time, deliverables, and deadlines.
  • Must be a self-starter, facilitator and innovator of new marketing approaches, and public relations.
  • Creative and strategic thinker with good judgment and ability to make independent decisions in a changing environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem analysis and problem resolution skills at both a strategic and functional level.
  • Software skills desired: Microsoft Office; ConstantContact, or similar email distribution service; Donor Perfect, or similar CRM platform.
  • Applicant must hold a valid driver's license to attend events, community presentations, meetings and similar functions.
  • Available to attend occasional evening and weekend events and meetings.
  • Empathy and compassion for people of all backgrounds and a desire to end homelessness; must be comfortable and skilled in working with culturally diverse staff and community; and must be considerate and respectful of all employees, volunteers, clients, donors and vendor partners.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor's degree is required in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of related experience in marketing and communications is preferred.
  • 3+ years of related experience in non-profit agency operations is desirable.

The work environment characteristics described here represent those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work environment is an office setting.The position regularly requires extensive use of close vision to read correspondence and prepare reports and other appropriate communications. Must be able to push, pull, lift, and carry fifteen pounds.
