Position Summary

Smith Group of Americas is seeking a driven and relationship-focused Business Development Manager to expand our presence throughout Northern New York. This individual will be responsible for identifying and securing new business opportunities, strengthening relationships with existing clients, supporting proposal and pursuit efforts, and representing the company during client meetings and project development discussions.

The ideal candidate is a proactive professional with a strong sales background, exceptional communication skills, and a passion for building long-term client partnerships. Experience within the construction, engineering, architecture, real estate development, or related industries is strongly preferred.

This position will work closely with executive leadership, estimating, operations, and project management teams to drive sustainable growth across our General Contracting, Construction Management, Design-Build, and Owner's Representative service lines.

Key ResponsibilitiesBusiness Development and Sales
  • Identify, pursue, and secure new business opportunities throughout Northern New York.
  • Develop and maintain a robust pipeline of public and private sector opportunities.
  • Establish relationships with owners, developers, municipalities, school districts, healthcare organizations, commercial clients, and industry partners.
  • Attend networking events, industry conferences, chamber events, and association meetings.
  • Conduct market research to identify emerging projects and strategic growth opportunities.
  • Track leads, opportunities, and client interactions utilizing CRM and company systems.
  • Client Relationship Management
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for prospective and existing clients.
  • Maintain regular communication with clients to ensure satisfaction and uncover future opportunities.
  • Strengthen relationships with key decisionmakers and stakeholders.
  • Assist leadership in developing longterm strategic partnerships.
  • Proposal and Pursuit Support
  • Coordinate with estimating, operations, and project teams to prepare proposals, qualifications packages, presentations, and interviews.
  • Assist in developing winning proposal strategies and clientspecific messaging.
  • Support RFP, RFQ, and bid response efforts.
  • Help maintain proposal content, project resumes, and marketing materials.
  • Owner's Representative and Client Meetings

  • Attend client meetings, project planning sessions, and stakeholder presentations.
  • Represent Smith Group as an Owner's Representative, Construction Manager, or General Contractor partner when appropriate.
  • Assist in communicating project capabilities, schedules, budgets, and solutions to clients.
  • Help facilitate communication between clients and internal project teams during pursuit and preconstruction phases.
  • Strategic Growth Initiatives
  • Work with executive leadership to develop regional growth strategies.
  • Monitor competitor activities, market trends, and industry developments.
  • Assist with branding, community engagement, and market positioning initiatives.
  • Collaborate with operations and leadership to identify target accounts and strategic opportunities.
  • Qualifications

    Required
  • Minimum 4 years of professional sales or business development experience.
  • Proven ability to develop and maintain client relationships.
  • Demonstrated success in generating new business opportunities and revenue growth.
  • Strong presentation, communication, and networking skills.
  • Experience developing proposals, presentations, or sales materials.
  • Ability to travel throughout Northern New York as needed.
