Development Intern
Communication Support Specialist
Department - Development
FLSA Status - Non-exempt
Job Summary
Provide support to the Director of Development in supporting the development of and maintenance of materials and activities that promote and support the Mission of DSNWK and fundraising efforts.
Essential Functions
  1. Work with the Major Gifts and Fundraising Team (President, Administrative Assistant, Director of Development, and Planned Giving and Major Gifts Officer) to assist in the planning and execution of communication strategies.
  2. Under the direction of the Director of Development, develop and maintain all promotional and informational materials.
  3. Assist in event planning and execution (i.e. Annual Luncheon, donor cultivation and other public and fundraising events, etc.).
  4. Participate in the DSNWK Grant Committee and grant writing efforts. Assist in completing reports and acknowledgements of grants/foundations as appropriate.
  5. Assist the Director of Development in donor recognition activities and displays.
  6. Assist the Director of Development in maintaining the DSNWK website, including the creation and production of online marketing content.
  7. Assist the Director of Development in planning, implementing, managing and monitoring DSNWK's social media strategy in order to increase brand awareness, and improve marketing efforts.
    1. Maintain media literacy and utilize current media platforms and trends to strategically create and execute social media content.
    2. Track and analyze DSNWK's social media channels in order to reach the above goal.
  8. Assist the Director of Development in the creation of marketing materials such as Developments magazine, DSNWK's Annual Report, and audio/video productions.
    1. Continually research, learn, and utilize current design and production applications to reach the above goal.
HIPAA Compliance
  1. This position is responsible for maintaining confidentiality for all PHI and ePHI that is shared with this person. This position will have access to all PHI and ePHI for individuals as required for projects, grants, and donor contact.

  2. Serve as a member of the Grant Committee.
  3. Performs other related duties as assigned.
  4. This position is not subject to the two year training period as defined by KPERS.
Job Specifications
Education - Bachelor's Degree in Communication(s) or related field required.
Experience - Proficient in use of technology, social media strategy and analysis, and video/audio/photo editing. Media literacy required. Prior personal or job related exposure to people with developmental disabilities is preferred, but not required.
Extent of physical effort required - Routine job requirements. Little if any behavior or other physical intervention.
