We are seeking a talented and versatile storyteller who can transform complex information into clear, engaging content that informs, inspires, and strengthens stakeholder connections. The ideal candidate is an exceptional writer and editor with a keen eye for detail, strong project management skills, and a passion for creating compelling, on-brand content across multiple platforms while collaborating effectively with varying audiences and teams.

What You Need to Know

Salary: $60,000 - $65,000/annually.

Other Requirements and Factors:

  • This position may be based in Houston, TX, or College Station, TX.

  • This position is funded from grant and/or contract funding, which is renewed through provisions of the grantor of the contract. Therefore, this position is contingent upon continuation of funding from these grants and/or contracts, as well as satisfactory job performance.

Essential Duties/Tasks

Content Creation and Production

  • Writes, edits, and proofreads a broad range of content including news releases, feature stories, web copy, email campaigns, social media content, brochures, annual reports, talking points, and executive communications

  • Develops and maintains a consistent organizational narrative and tone across all written materials, adapting style appropriately for varied audiences including peers, funding agencies, community members, clients, partners, and internal staff

  • Translates technical or programmatic information into accessible, audience-appropriate language

  • Produces long-form and short-form copy that demonstrate organizational expertise and mission

Content Strategy and Coordination

  • Collaborates across the organization to identify content needs and develop editorial calendars aligned with organizational priorities

  • Research topics thoroughly to ensure accuracy, credibility, and relevance of all published content

  • Contributes to multiple projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines while maintaining high-quality standards

  • Publishes and updates content on organizational platforms and websites as part of a creative team effort

  • Assists in developing and refining departmental communications plans, contributing creative input

Collaboration & Brand Management

  • Partner with other members of the communications team to ensure cohesive content across all formats and platforms

  • Review and edit content written by other team members, providing constructive feedback to elevate organizational writing quality

  • Serve as a brand steward, ensuring all materials adhere to organizational brand and style guidelines

  • Support internal communications initiatives

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Two years of related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience writing about complex or technical subject matter for general audiences.

  • Experience producing both long-form content (articles, reports, case studies) and short-form copy (social media, email, web).

  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, WordPress or other content management systems (CMS), Mailchimp or other email marketing platforms, and social media platforms.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent writing and editing skills; working knowledge of AP Style preferred but not required.

  • Natural storyteller with the ability to find compelling narratives in data, programs, and people.

  • Demonstrated ability to adapt communication style for varied audiences and channels.

  • Collaborative professional with strong interpersonal skills.

  • Attention to detail with a commitment to accuracy and consistency.

  • Ability to work independently and successfully support competing priorities.

  • Self-starter who brings creative initiative and follows through on ideas.

  • Ability to travel independently to other and/or remote locations by driving and/or flying on commercial airlines.
