Job Title: Yard JockeyJob Description

This role focuses on safely and efficiently moving trailers and rail containers within a wastewater plant yard while supporting daily operations for a busy industrial facility. You will prepare equipment for use, assist with material handling, and perform additional tasks assigned by leads and operators to keep the yard running smoothly.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare trailers and rail containers for use by inspecting them and ensuring they are ready for loading and transport.
  • Install liners in trailers and rail containers according to site procedures and safety standards.
  • Operate a yard jockey vehicle to move trailers and rail containers around the yard in a safe, efficient, and timely manner.
  • Coordinate with leads and operators to understand daily priorities and move equipment and materials to designated locations.
  • Support material handling activities within the yard, including positioning trailers and containers for loading and unloading.
  • Follow all site safety rules, traffic patterns, and equipment operating procedures within the wastewater plant.
  • Perform basic pre- and post-operation checks on yard jockey and related equipment, and report any issues or defects.
  • Assist with additional tasks and duties assigned by leads and operators to support overall yard and plant operations.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including keeping traffic lanes and equipment staging areas clear.
  • Communicate clearly with team members and supervisors to ensure smooth yard operations and minimize downtime.
Essential Skills
  • 2–5+ years of experience working as a yard jockey or in a similar yard truck/spotter role.
  • Proven ability to safely operate a yard jockey vehicle to move trailers and rail containers within an industrial yard.
  • Experience working in an industrial, plant, or similar heavy operations environment.
  • Strong awareness of safety practices related to vehicle operation and yard traffic.
  • Ability to follow instructions from leads and operators and adapt to changing priorities during the shift.
  • Capability to perform physical tasks such as installing liners and climbing in and out of equipment as needed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience operating heavy equipment such as skid steers, Bobcats, front-end loaders, excavators, and dozers.
  • Previous exposure to wastewater plants, industrial plants, or similar environments.
  • Interest in gaining additional heavy equipment experience or plant operator experience.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including both days and nights, on a 3-on/4-off and 4-on/3-off schedule.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Work Environment

This position is based at a wastewater plant, working primarily outdoors and in an industrial yard setting around heavy equipment and large vehicles. You will operate a yard jockey and may work near skid steers, Bobcats, front-end loaders, excavators, and dozers as part of daily operations. The schedule follows a rotating pattern of 3 days on / 4 days off and 4 days on / 3 days off, alternating between day and night shifts each month. The environment is fast-paced and safety-focused, requiring consistent adherence to plant procedures, traffic patterns, and personal protective equipment requirements appropriate for a wastewater and heavy industrial setting.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $24.00/hr.
