Job description

OVERVIEW:

The Welder/Fabricator is responsible for fabricating and assembling parts and/or steel to manufacture particular units used to support aggregate equipment (i.e. Control Vans, Conveyors, Control Towers, etc.). This person must have a willingness to learn and an extensive knowledge and understanding of welding.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Fabrication Duties:
    • Builds, fabricates, and/or repairs equipment and/or miscellaneous articles from verbal instructions, blueprints, and/or working drawings.
    • Cuts, fabricates and otherwise modifies van trailers and sea containers per plan.
    • Prepares and paints small piece parts as needed.
    • Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications.
    • Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.
    • Mechanical assembly.
  • Welding Duties:
    • Lays out, cuts, preheats, cleans, and otherwise prepares materials to be welded.
    • Welds, grinds, and/or fabricates various materials.
    • Tack-welds or welds components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment.
    • Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
  • Other Duties:
    • Accurately reports all parts and material used on a job daily.
    • Regularly attends educational and training programs covering company policies, department objectives, skill sets, and personal growth.
    • Maintains a clean and safe working environment.
    • Maintains and cares for shop tools, equipment, and vehicles.
    • Completes all paperwork required for jobs.
    • Maintains close, positive working relationships with co-workers, customers, vendors, etc.
    • Basic carpentry skills.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3 – 5 years welding/fabricating experience required.
  • Must have proven MIG welding skills.
  • Must have the ability to work within a team environment.
  • Must be a dependable self-starter.
  • Must have organizational skills with ability to effectively manage multiple projects.
  • Attention and care required to prevent injury to others when performing work.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to maintain an insurable driving record.
  • Must be able to interpret, read and understand blueprint dimensions and nomenclature.
  • Must have basic math skills. (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication of whole #’s & fractions)
  • Press break and shear operation experience is a plus.
  • Welder certification or ability to obtain welding certification.

NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB:

  • Occasionally lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling 100+ pounds and/or frequently lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling 50+ pounds and/or continuous lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling 20+ pounds.
