Role Overview

The Trailer Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining tank trailers in compliance with DOT and HM183 (hazmat) regulations. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting ability, and a commitment to safety and quality workmanship.


Key Responsibilities

  • Diagnose failures and perform repairs on mechanical, electrical, and structural systems
  • Perform tank service and repair
  • Install and repair trailer suspension systems
  • Inspect, service, and repair air brake systems
  • Conduct DOT inspections in compliance with HM183 and hazmat standards
  • Ensure all repairs meet safety and regulatory requirements
  • Maintain detailed inspection and repair documentation
  • Follow all OSHA safety procedures
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment

TIG welding (aluminum, stainless, or carbon) experience is a plus but not required.


Qualifications

  • DOT inspection certification required
  • 2 years of tank trailer repair experience preferred
  • Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills
  • Experience working with air brake systems
  • Suspension repair and installation experience
  • Ability to read and understand repair documentation and compliance standards
  • Experience in an industrial or heavy equipment environment

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs
  • Ability to enter and exit tank trailer manholes
  • Ability to work in confined spaces
  • Ability to stand, bend, kneel, and work in physically demanding conditions
