Container Manager information

What is a container manager?

Container Managers are professionals responsible for overseeing the handling, storage, and movement of shipping containers within ports, warehouses, or logistics facilities. They coordinate container logistics to ensure efficient use of space, proper tracking, and timely delivery or dispatch. Their role often involves supervising teams, maintaining safety standards, and optimizing workflow processes related to container management. Container Managers also use specialized software to monitor container status and manage inventory. This position is vital for smooth operations in supply chain and transportation industries.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a container manager?

To thrive as a Container Manager, you need strong logistics management skills, familiarity with port or warehouse operations, and typically a background in supply chain management or a related field. Proficiency in inventory management systems, container tracking software, and possibly certifications like the International Maritime Dangerous Goods (IMDG) Code are valuable. Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for coordinating teams and ensuring efficient operations. These competencies are essential to ensure the safe, timely, and cost-effective movement and storage of containers within the supply chain.

What challenges does a container manager face when overseeing container logistics?

Container Managers often deal with challenges such as coordinating schedules for container arrivals and departures, ensuring compliance with safety and customs regulations, and managing unexpected delays due to weather or port congestion. Additionally, they must maintain clear communication with shipping companies, warehouse staff, and transportation providers to optimize efficiency. Adapting quickly to dynamic conditions and resolving logistical issues are key aspects of the role that require strong problem-solving and organizational skills.

Builders who are wired to make an impact. Robinhood isn't a place for complacency, it's where ambitious people do the best work of their careers. We're a high-performing, fast-moving team with ethics at the center of everything we do. Expectations are high, and so are the rewards.

Within this group, the Kubernetes Compute team focuses on building and operating a highly available, scalable Kubernetes-powered container platform. We ensure that our infrastructure seamlessly supports reliable application deployments, integrates core platform capabilities, and enables multi-region scalability. We are expanding our core container systems to support our next phase of technical growth!

As a Senior Software Developer, you will focus heavily on building, operating, and expanding our container provisioning platforms. You will be responsible for designing resilient container infrastructure and contributing to our technical migration to Amazon EKS to improve platform reliability. In this position, you will collaborate with engineering teams across Robinhood to deliver reliable platform integrations for core capabilities like networking and security. Your work will directly help our infrastructure scale efficiently while maintaining a high standard of safety and system uptime.

  • Contribute to the technical execution of migrating core workloads to Amazon EKS while ensuring zero-downtime deployments.
  • Optimize container lifecycle management, networking infrastructure, and cluster provisioning APIs for multi-region reliability.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams across Robinhood to integrate core platform capabilities like service mesh, authentication, and load balancing.
  • Identify performance bottlenecks in production environments and implement automated solutions to enhance platform availability.
What you bring
  • Strong proficiency with Kubernetes control plane and data plane components, including container lifecycle management.
  • Experience deploying, debugging, and managing large-scale distributed systems or containerized platforms in a production environment.
  • Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, specifically AWS services and managed container environments like Amazon EKS.
  • Knowledge of container networking concepts, cluster security protocols, and open-source cloud-native tools.
  • Ability to plan and execute technical projects systematically while providing technical guidance to team members.
