POSITION SUMMARY:
The positionโ€™s main responsibility is to perform preventative and corrective maintenance on containers used for national and international shipping distribution. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
  • Two (2) years of industry-related experience repairing and restructuring intermodal equipment, including containers.
  • Possess Advanced Stick and MIG welding experience.
  • Knowledge of proper container repair standards and procedures.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak basic English.
  • Must be able to accurately process alpha/numeric information.
  • Ability to function effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and strong initiative.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees.
  • Ability to think logically, follow procedures, instructions and make sound decisions.
  • Must be able to work (flexible hours) extended hours including nights, overtime, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a TWIC card within 30 days of employment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Primary
  • Follow the Institute of International Container Lessors (IICL) guidelines to ensure the structural integrity of each intermodal equipment.
  • Perform systematic inspections and repairs to intermodal equipment including flat racks, chassis, and containers.
  • Maintain documentation of inspections and repairs performed in the Distribution System Technology (DST) computer database or hand-held computer.
  • Perform repairs and restructures on intermodal equipment using a variety of hand and power tools, including Stick and MIG welding.
  • Perform mechanic skills including, but not limited to, welding, replacing damaged structures, damaged floors, doors, & container roofs and side panels.
  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment at all times by cleaning, organizing, removing safety hazards, oil spills, spare parts, etc. within warehouse.
  • Maintain awareness of surroundings (i.e. vehicles, people checking equipment, etc.) at all times.
Secondary
  • Safely operates a forklift.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: ย 
  • The employee is continuously required to stand, walk, grasp, talk, hear and use eye-hand coordination.ย 
  • The employee is frequently required to lift, carry and push/ pull up to 30lbs.
  • The employee is frequently required to climb, bend forward, squat, kneel, twist, reach forward and pinch
  • The employee is frequently required to use repetitive wrist motion and finger dexterity.
  • The employee is occasionally required to sit, crawl, and reach overhead.
  • The employee is occasionally required to lift, carry and push/pull up to 50lbs.
  • The employee is occasionally required to use repetitive foot motion, eye-hand-foot coordination.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral. vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.ย 
SAFETY REQUIREMENTS:
  • Report safety hazards.
  • Immediately reports incidents involving injury, illness, or property damage.
  • Wear appropriate PPE as instructed by the supervisor.
  • Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and rules.
  • Refuse any unsafe tasks or operation.

ย SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED:
Receives direct supervision from the Maintenance & Repair Supervisor and Maintenance & Repair Manager; may assist other Mechanics in the performance of chassis or container repairs. Does not exercise supervision over any position.
CONDITIONS:
  • Exposure to all possible environmental factors such as extreme heat, rain, wind and high humidity durin day and night shifts.
  • The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to dust, fumes and airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals.
  • Moderate to high noise volume.
  • High vibration with use of sledgehammer and moderate vibration with use of hydraulic seating system.
