Their role is crucial for maintaining efficient supply chain operations and minimizing shipping delays.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a container drayage dispatcher, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Container Drayage Dispatcher, you need strong organizational skills, knowledge of shipping logistics, and experience in transportation coordination, often supported by a high school diploma or relevant work experience. Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS), GPS tracking tools, and port communication platforms is typically required. Job description

OWNER-OPERATOR โ€” INTERMODAL / DRAYAGE

Elwood / Joliet, IL ยท Home daily ยท Year-round dedicated freight

What you'll run: Container drayage between the Elwood/Joliet rail ramps, area rail yards, and Midwest customers. Mix of local rail shuttles and regional lanes (Iowa, Wisconsin, Indiana runs) โ€” most work keeps you within the region and gets you home every night.

Why operators stay here

  • Home daily. The freight is built around the Chicagoland ramps โ€” not over-the-road.
  • Steady, dedicated volume. Established customer freight year-round, not load-board scraps.
  • Percentage-based pay with weekly settlements โ€” transparent line-item statements, fuel surcharge passed through on every loaded mile.
  • Fuel card program with meaningful at-the-pump savings.
  • Our own shop on-site. Priority service for our operators; maintenance handled where you park.
  • Secured on-site parking โ€” leave the truck at the terminal, drive home in your car.
  • Plates, permits, PrePass available through the company โ€” spread across settlements instead of out-of-pocket lump sums.
  • Insurance options available for deduction-based enrollment (bobtail, physical damage, occupational accident).
  • No forced dispatch.
  • Grow when you're ready: lease-purchase tractors available โ€” day cabs and sleepers โ€” and fleet owners are welcome to place multiple trucks.

What you need

  • Class A CDL with 12+ months verifiable tractor-trailer experience (intermodal/drayage a plus, not required)
  • Tractor of your own โ€” or use our lease-purchase program; you don't need to already own one
  • 23+ years old, acceptable MVR and PSP, able to pass DOT drug screen
  • Tank, Hazmat and TWIC not required, helpful for some
  • Professionalism at the gate: our customers know our operators by their conduct
