What is a consumer insight analyst?

A consumer insight analyst helps a business understand their consumers or clients. Your responsibilities in this career are to perform research and collect data regarding sales trends and consumer satisfaction. You then analyze the information to identify issues or shortcomings. Your duties may be to design potential processes and procedures or merely provide reports to assist in product development, marketing strategies, sales projections, or improvement of the services of the company. You might also utilize your research to determine areas that are not currently being met by sales markets. As a customer insight analyst, you may work independently or operate as a part of a team.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a consumer insight analyst?

To thrive as a Consumer Insight Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, proficiency in data interpretation, and typically a degree in marketing, statistics, or a related field. Familiarity with tools such as SPSS, SAS, Tableau, and survey platforms, along with experience in market research methodologies, is highly valued. Exceptional communication, attention to detail, and critical thinking abilities help convey complex insights to stakeholders and influence business decisions. These skills are crucial for transforming data into actionable strategies that drive consumer-focused business growth.

What are some common challenges consumer insight analysts face when translating research findings into actionable business recommendations?

Consumer Insight Analysts often encounter the challenge of bridging the gap between complex data and practical business strategies. Interpreting large volumes of qualitative and quantitative data to uncover clear, actionable insights requires a deep understanding of both the market and the specific goals of stakeholders. Additionally, analysts must communicate their findings in a way that is easily understood by non-technical team members, ensuring recommendations are relevant and impactful. Balancing the need for detailed analysis with tight project deadlines is also a common aspect of the role.

Job description

About Arlo:
At Arlo, we're passionate about creating innovative and reliable solutions that help people protect what matters most to them. Our team is dedicated to delivering products that exceed our customers' expectations, while always pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the world of protection technology. We believe that everyone deserves to feel safe and secure, whether they're at home or away, and we're committed to providing our customers with the peace of mind they need to live their lives without worry. Arlo's deep expertise in AI- and CV-powered analytics, cloud services, user experience, product design, and innovative wireless and RF connectivity enables the delivery of a seamless, smart security experience for Arlo users that is easy to set up and interact with every day.
About The Role
Arlo is looking for a Growth Product Manager, Insights & Experimentation to help us better understand customer behavior, identify growth opportunities, and improve the subscription journey.
This role sits within Product-Led Growth and will focus on turning behavioral data, customer signals, and experiment results into actions that improve activation, trial-to-paid conversion, customer experience, and subscription revenue.
This is not a traditional feature PM role. We're looking for a data-forward consumer product thinker who is naturally curious about why users behave the way they do, comfortable digging into funnels and cohorts, and able to turn insights into experiments and product decisions.
This is a 1 year fixed-term role
What You'll Do
Customer Journey & Growth Insights
  • Analyze consumer behavior across onboarding, trial, activation, conversion, device types, plans, feature adoption, and key customer segments.
  • Identify where customers realize value, where they stall or disengage, and what differentiates higher-converting cohorts.
  • Connect behavioral data with reviews, surveys, cancellation feedback, Care themes, and other customer signals.
  • Turn ambiguous customer and funnel questions into clear insights, hypotheses, segmentation opportunities, and product recommendations.

Experimentation & Growth Optimization
  • Own selected Growth experiments and optimization initiatives end to end across onboarding, activation, paywalls, merchandising, checkout, feature adoption, and other subscription experiences.
  • Define hypotheses, success metrics, guardrails, launch requirements, and decision criteria with cross-functional partners.
  • Analyze results beyond the topline to understand who responded, why, and what should happen next.
  • Independently own selected Growth surfaces or problem areas and turn learnings into follow-on tests, iterations, and roadmap recommendations.

Measurement & Growth Diagnostics
  • Monitor key funnel and subscription metrics and surface meaningful trends, anomalies, risks, and opportunities.
  • Identify instrumentation and measurement gaps and partner with Analytics and Engineering to improve event coverage and reliability.
  • Use downstream subscriber behavior where relevant to improve upstream activation and conversion decisions.
  • Translate behavioral and experiment data into concise recommendations for Product, Engineering, Marketing, Care, Finance, and leadership.

What We're Looking For
  • 4+ years of experience in consumer growth product management, product analytics, experimentation, monetization, lifecycle optimization, or a closely related area.
  • Strong experience analyzing consumer funnels, cohorts, activation, conversion, feature adoption, retention, or lifecycle behavior.
  • Hands-on experience with A/B testing and experimentation, including turning results into product decisions and follow-on actions.
  • Strong self-service analytical capability using tools such as SQL, Amplitude, Mixpanel, Looker, Tableau, Power BI, or similar.
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate ambiguous customer behavior and explain not just what happened, but why.
  • Experience turning behavioral data, customer feedback, and experiment results into hypotheses, product recommendations, and growth opportunities.
  • Strong product judgment and ability to independently own meaningful optimization initiatives.
  • Strong written and cross-functional communication skills, with the ability to distill complex analysis into clear recommendations.

Bonus
  • Experience in a consumer hardware + software + subscription business, such as connected devices, smart home, wearables, or other products where physical products and digital services work together.
  • Experience with trial, onboarding, paywalls, checkout, cancellation, lifecycle, personalization, or subscription merchandising.
  • Experience with Voice-of-Customer programs, in-app surveys, app reviews, or cancellation feedback.
  • Experience with Amplitude Experimentation, LaunchDarkly, Databricks, or similar growth and analytics platforms.
