About the Role
Our client, a leading Fortune 50 retailer with a highly integrated marketing organization, is seeking an Engagement Manager to oversee agency partnerships, financial stewardship, and operational excellence across a broad portfolio of brand and marketing initiatives. This role serves as a strategic partner to Marketing, Finance, Legal, Procurement, and external agency leaders, ensuring strong governance, financial discipline, compliance, transparency, and partner performance.
The Engagement Manager will play a critical role in managing agency relationships and commercial agreements that support Brand and Category Marketing, Social Media, Experiential Marketing, Store Experience Marketing, Packaging, and Brand Development initiatives.
Job Description
As an Engagement Manager, you will lead the development, management, and optimization of agency scopes, budgets, and commercial agreements to ensure business objectives are met while maintaining financial accountability.
Responsibilities
  • Partner with Marketing, Finance, Legal, Procurement, and external agency leaders to drive operational excellence and ensure alignment across projects and initiatives.
  • Apply established strategies, processes, and best practices to scope development, agency budgeting, and the negotiation of agency fees, retainers, and commercial agreements.
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and manage scopes of work (SOWs), contracts, and related documentation for a variety of marketing-led initiatives.
  • Monitor agency performance against financial, contractual, and operational commitments.
  • Identify and proactively address scope creep, budget variances, resource allocation concerns, and performance issues.
  • Provide oversight and governance across agency partnerships to ensure transparency, compliance, and accountability.
  • Support budget planning, forecasting, and ongoing financial management for complex marketing investments.
  • Evaluate agency staffing models, fee structures, and service capabilities to ensure optimal resource utilization and value delivery.
  • Develop and maintain strong cross-functional relationships to support business objectives and drive successful project outcomes.
  • Analyze financial and operational data to identify efficiencies, mitigate risks, and improve partnership performance.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience managing agency relationships, vendor engagements, or strategic partnerships within a marketing, advertising, or related environment.
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating contracts, scopes of work, retainers, pricing models, and commercial agreements.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience managing large, complex budgets, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Knowledge of agency operating models, staffing structures, fee arrangements, and project scoping methodologies.
  • Experience collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders including Marketing, Finance, Legal, and Procurement teams.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, stakeholder management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Word, or equivalent productivity tools.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.

  • Background in marketing operations, agency management, procurement, sourcing, or commercial relationship management.
