Mental Health Cooperative, Inc. (MHC) was formed in 1993 to serve individuals with severe and persistent mental illness. Since then, we have expanded our services to children and adolescents with severe emotional disorders across Middle and East Tennessee.

Our sole purpose is to support and treat those challenged with serious mental illness and poverty. Although based out of Nashville, we serve several communities across middle and East Tennessee with satellite offices in Antioch, Gallatin, Dickson, Columbia, Cleveland, Murfreesboro, Clarksville, Cookeville, Chattanooga, and Memphis.

Provide Consumer care and monitoring in the Emergency Psychiatric Services Department promoting a safe and therapeutic environment and assisting consumer needs while receiving emergency psychiatric interventions.

Job Title: Mental Health Technician, Adults (Day Shift)
Schedule:

7:00am - 7:00pm: Thursday, Friday, Saturday

Salary: $19.79 hourly (base pay) with additional incentive for language skills and behavioral health experience.


JOB SUMMARY: Provide Consumer care and monitoring in the Emergency Psychiatric Services Department promoting a safe and therapeutic environment and assisting consumer needs while receiving emergency psychiatric interventions.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Engage with Consumers admitted to EPS and assist their needs during their stay
  • Assist with de-escalating Consumers in crisis and provide on-going monitoring to ensure Consumer and staff safety.
  • Work collaboratively with EPS treatment team to develop and implement initial treatment plans.
  • Promote a recovery-based approach to care that emphasizes hope, respect, self-direction and empowerment.
  • Assist and engage with consumers to achieve their goals and treatment plan.
  • Assist in consumer transfers to the Crisis treatment Center 1 (CTC1), Crisis Treatment Center 2 (CTC2), Crisis Stabilization Unit (CSU) and Intensive Intervention Center (IIC).
  • Obtain and secure consumer belongings on admission to EPS treatment programs in accordance with agency policies.
  • Utilize Therapeutic Options and therapeutic restraint/seclusion to ensure consumer and staff safety as warranted
  • Maintain a safe therapeutic environment free of sharps and other potentially harmful objects.
  • Monitor and communicate consumer's behavior, level of cooperation, and ability to remain safe while admitted to EPS.
  • Ensure consumer safety checks are a priority and completed
  • Provide consumers with needed supplies (food, toiletries, etc).
  • Participate in cross-training in all EPS Treatment programs as desired
  • Work collaboratively with MCRT staff.
  • Ensure Customer Service is a priority with all consumers.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, supervisors, and consumers.
  • Demonstrate proficiency an obtain vital signs.
  • Assist nursing with POC tests: UDS collection
  • Versatility in the workplace and among units at EPS
  • Attend team meetings, supervision, and training as required.
  • Follow Universal Precautions policies and procedures at all times


REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
  • Minimum of 1-2 years' experience working in the mental health or health care field preferred
  • CNA, CNT, MA, EMT a plus and preferred
  • eCW experience a plus
  • Therapeutic Options certification a plus
  • Visible Hand experience a plus
  • Valid Tennessee Driver's License
  • Acceptable Motor Vehicle Report (MVR)
  • Acceptable Criminal Background Investigation
  • Personal Automobile Insurance
  • Successful Completion of Therapeutic Options Training
