This Postdoctoral Fellow position is essential for the successful execution of a highly technical, multi aim translational research project focused on uncovering immune mechanisms underlying chemotherapy induced peripheral neuropathy (CIPN) in the context of breast cancer treatment. The proposed research integrates complex orthotopic tumor models, immune specific genetic manipulations, advanced neurobehavioral phenotyping, and translational pharmacologic interventions, all of which require a dedicated, full time postdoctoral scientist with advanced methodological and analytical expertise. PhD or equivalent required.
Scope of the Position and Key Functions
The Postdoctoral Fellow will serve as the primary experimental lead and integrator across all three Specific Aims of the project, with responsibilities including but not limited to:
1. Experimental Design and Execution
• Lead and coordinate immunocompetent, orthotopic breast cancer resection models combined with adjuvant chemotherapy.
• Execute complex longitudinal CIPN behavioral assays (mechanical allodynia, cold sensitivity).
• Perform immune specific genetic and pharmacologic manipulations targeting the IRE1α XBP1 pathway.
• Conduct advanced flow cytometry, FACS sorting, molecular assays (qPCR, ELISA), histology, and confocal imaging.
2. Mechanistic and Translational Integration
• Integrate tumor progression endpoints (recurrence, lung metastases, IVIS imaging) with neurotoxicity and immune outcomes.
• Perform ex vivo co culture assays linking immune cell activation to neuronal injury and tumor aggressiveness.
• Evaluate translational pharmacologic strategies (MKC 8866 ± paclitaxel) across multiple disease contexts.
3. Data Analysis, Interpretation, and Dissemination
• Analyze high dimensional data across behavioral, molecular, immune, and oncologic endpoints.
• Prepare manuscripts, conference presentations, and progress reports for funding agencies.
• Contribute to grant development supporting continuation and expansion of the research program.
4. Research Training and Mentorship
• Provide day to day mentorship to trainees (graduate students and research staff) in specialized techniques.
• Foster cross disciplinary collaboration between cancer biology, immunology, neuroscience, and anesthesiology.
