This Opportunity:
  • Join our team based in Rice Lake, Wisconsin in this year-round opportunity to develop both construction and design skills.

  • Participate in field activities on projects with varying levels of complexity and construction conditions.

  • Provide on-site representation for a variety of transportation projects, supporting tasks such as documentation, material testing, survey coordination, and more.

  • Travel to project sites as needed to complete field responsibilities.

  • Apply engineering and technical knowledge to support construction-related duties.

  • Assist with field observations on less complex construction projects to ensure conformance with contract documents.

  • Maintain daily documentation of certified work and enter quantities into recordkeeping systems or contract administration software.

  • Communicate regularly with engineers, contractors, landowners, utility companies, and public stakeholders regarding project progress and concerns.

  • Support monitoring of contractor schedules and construction progress, reporting updates to senior construction staff and project managers.

  • Assist in developing project punch lists and compiling final documentation in accordance with contract requirements.

  • Help prepare record drawings and maintain project files and digital records.

  • Monitor contractor activities on-site under direct supervision.

  • Handle basic issues independently and escalate more complex matters to senior staff. Possess a foundational to intermediate understanding of construction practices.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Ability to obtain required HTCP certifications.

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret plans, specifications, and technical documents.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present information professionally to internal and external stakeholders.

  • Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills.

  • Ability to calculate project quantities accurately.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).

  • Willingness to learn construction administration software such as AASHTOWare, OneOffice, Bluebeam, or Adobe.

  • Commitment to SEH's Quality and Safety standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 0-5 years of experience in the construction industry, with knowledge of construction techniques, estimating, scheduling, and construction administration.

  • Knowledge of WisDOT construction policies/practices

  • Willingness and ability to travel long distances daily, if required.

  • Familiarity with Civil 3D.

This position requires an MVR records check verifying that you possess a valid driver's license and a driving record which meets the requirements of SEH's Driving Program.
