Reporting to: VP Construction

Your role in the mission:

Infinity One is Type One Energyโ€™s prototype stellarator fusion machine and supporting test facilities being developed and deployed at the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) Bull Run site near Knoxville, TN. The Director of Construction โ€“ Infinity One is responsible for supporting the VP โ€“ Construction in the coordination, execution, and delivery of Infinity One related construction projects from planning, preparation, mobilization through to commissioning and closeout.

This role provides day-to-day construction management oversight of all field operations, ensuring Infinity One projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with quality standards and contractual requirements.

The Director of Construction leads construction teams, contractors, subcontractors, and field personnel while collaborating closely with engineering, project management, procurement, and client stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities Construction Management & Execution
  • Support the VP โ€“ Construction in managing execution of all phases of Infinity One field construction activities, including planning, procurement support, execution, commissioning, and project closeout in accordance with approved plans.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain construction execution plans and schedules aligned with project objectives through proper work control processes.
  • Collaborate with the VP โ€“ Construction to provide leadership for field construction operations, including oversight and direct management of contractors, subcontractors, and construction personnel.
  • Ensure construction activities comply with project specifications, codes, permits, and regulatory requirements.
Safety & Quality Management
  • Promote and enforce a strong safety culture that can deliver on expectations for zero Lost Time Accident (LTA) during execution of all projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) requirements by establishing and maintaining proper construction site workplace standards.
  • Ensure that all construction activities are conducted in accordance with Type One Energy and applicable TVA Quality Assurance and Quality Control programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Support the VP โ€“ Construction in conducting incident investigations and implementing corrective actions when required.
Project Controls & Performance
  • Monitor construction progress against project schedules, budgets, productivity, and performance metrics.
  • Identify construction risks and collaborate with the VP - Construction in the development and implementation of mitigation plans.
  • Coordinate with project controls teams to maintain accurate schedule and cost forecasting and reporting of progress to work plans.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance construction project efficiency, cost, and schedule performance.
  • Working closely with the VP โ€“ Construction, recruit, develop, mentor, and evaluate construction management personnel.
  • Foster collaboration among engineering, procurement, project controls, and field construction teams.
  • Build high-performing construction teams focused on accountability, communication, and project success.
Stakeholder Management
  • Together with the VP โ€“ Construction, serve as a construction project management interface contractor management, regulatory agencies, and community stakeholders.
  • Support the VP โ€“ Construction in preparation for and conduct of project progress meetings and executive status reviews.
  • Support construction contract negotiations, change management, and claims resolution.
Construction Project Planning
  • Participate in early construction project development activities including constructability reviews and execution planning.
  • Support construction project estimating, budgeting, and bid evaluations.
What youโ€™ll need:
  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, or related field.
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive construction experience.
  • 10+ years in construction leadership or project management roles.
  • Experience managing large-scale industrial, energy, commercial, infrastructure, or mission-critical projects.
  • Proven record of delivering projects exceeding $50 million in construction value.
Certifications (Preferred)
  • PMP (Project Management Professional)
  • CCM (Certified Construction Manager)
  • OSHA 30-Hour Certification
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred where applicable
