Job Title: Traveling Construction Laborer

Job Description

The Traveling Construction Laborer supports the installation, testing, removal, and replacement of petroleum tanks, piping, and related equipment for fueling and automotive service facilities. This role involves frequent travel, physically demanding field construction work, and the operation of heavy equipment and power tools while consistently following established safety procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in installing and testing petroleum storage tanks, piping systems, and associated fueling equipment.
  • Support the removal and proper disposal of old petroleum equipment in accordance with safety and environmental guidelines.
  • Move, secure, install, build, load, and unload construction materials and equipment on job sites.
  • Follow all safety procedures and protocols on every job to protect yourself, the team, and the environment.
  • Operate power tools, skid loaders, air compressors, forklifts, and other related tools and equipment as required.
  • Perform manual construction work in the field, including mechanical and electrical tasks related to petroleum fueling systems.
  • Work effectively in a field construction environment, often outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
  • Travel regularly to job sites, work out of town, and stay overnight on a frequent basis.
  • Collaborate with technicians and other team members to complete projects efficiently and to quality standards.
  • Remain flexible with work hours, including early start times, late evenings, and extended weeks when projects require completion.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area, including tools, equipment, and company vehicle.
  • Uphold company policies and represent the organization professionally at customer locations.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in a construction-related field, preferably involving service, field construction, or heavy equipment.
  • Ability to perform manual construction work, including lifting, carrying, and handling materials and tools.
  • Ability to operate equipment such as skid loaders, forklifts, air compressors, and various power tools.
  • Comfort working with mechanical and electrical components in a field construction setting.
  • Valid driver’s license with the ability to meet insurability requirements and maintain a good driving record.
  • Ability to work out of town and stay overnight on a frequent basis.
  • Willingness to travel regularly and work up to 60 or more hours per week when needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds at times and perform physically demanding tasks.
  • Comfort working with petroleum fuels and in environments where getting dirty is common.
  • Ability to follow detailed safety procedures and work practices consistently.
  • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills to get along well with technicians and other colleagues.

Work Environment

This role is with a specialty contractor focused on designing, installing, and servicing petroleum fueling systems and automotive servicing equipment across Minnesota, South Dakota, and Wisconsin. Work is primarily in the field at customer sites, often outdoors and in varying weather conditions, and involves frequent travel and overnight stays. You will use a range of tools and heavy equipment, including power tools, skid loaders, air compressors, and forklifts, while working closely with other technicians. Hours vary day to day; typical days might run from early morning to late afternoon or evening, and some weeks can extend to 50–60 hours when projects must be completed. After about a year, you will participate in an on-call rotation approximately every seven weeks. The environment is hands-on and can be dirty at times due to working with petroleum fuels and heavy construction materials, and you should be comfortable lifting up to 75 pounds. Once trained, you will have your own truck to take home and your own territory to service. The culture is family-oriented and collaborative, with technicians coming from a wide range of backgrounds and interests, and getting along well with the team is important to success in this environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Stewartville, MN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
