Job Summary:
The General Superintendent plans, directs, and coordinates field operations for civil construction projects involving scopes of work such as:
  • Excavation, hauling, and placement of soil and coal combustion residuals (CCR).
  • Installation of piping, utilities, and related civil infrastructure.
  • Management of surface water and in-situ dewatering systems.
  • Landfill construction and closure activities.
  • Installation and maintenance of final cover systems.
  • Implementation and maintenance of erosion control best management practices (BMPs).

This position is responsible for leading field operations personnel, including hiring, training, performance management, and day-to-day coordination. Working closely with project management, the General Superintendent provides leadership to supervisors, craft employees, and subcontractors to execute the work safely, efficiently, and in accordance with quality, productivity, customer satisfaction, and cost management objectives.
Essential Functions:
The General Superintendent is responsible for overseeing all construction activities performed by Trans Ash crews and subcontractors. Essential functions include:
  • Ensure compliance with Trans Ash, customer, and regulatory safety policies and procedures.
  • Promote a culture in which safety is the top priority.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the contracted scope of work, including IFC drawings, project specifications, scope changes, change orders, and RFIs.
  • Ensure all work is performed safely, productively, and efficiently.
  • Ensure work meets Trans Ash and customer quality standards.
  • Understand project schedules and ensure milestone dates and deadlines are achieved.
  • Accurately report quantities and daily work progress to project management personnel.
    • Continuously monitor current and future resource needs, including labor, equipment, subcontractors, and materials, and coordinate with project management to ensure resources are available when needed.
  • Manage the hiring, training, development, attendance, and performance of field personnel.
  • Track job costs and make operational adjustments as needed to support budget performance.
  • Identify, communicate, and help resolve constructability issues, field conflicts, and project-related concerns as they arise.
  • Maintain positive working relationships and communicate effectively with customers, subcontractors, vendors, coworkers, and project stakeholders.

Job Requirements and Qualifications
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor's degree in construction management or a related field preferred.

Training Requirements:
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
  • In-depth knowledge of construction procedures, heavy equipment, and OSHA guidelines.
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications.
  • Understanding of basic project contract payment structures.
  • Ability to read and comprehend construction documents, including contracts, submittals, RFIs, specifications, schedules, bid estimates, budgets, and cost reports.

Experience:
  • Minimum of five years of supervisory experience in civil construction.
  • Experience with heavy equipment and large-scale earthwork operations preferred.

Other Information:
  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer may be required.
    • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs., work in various weather conditions, and walk or stand for extended periods.
      • Must be physically able to perform work outdoors in hot and cold weather conditions.
  • Must be able to work in a construction environment.
  • Must be able to walk slopes and uneven terrain
  • Must be able to successfully pass a drug test, MVR, and background check
  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
