This Quality Control Supervisor position will lead evening-shift laboratory operations and a team of Quality Control Analysts who perform analytical testing in support of API manufacturing. This role combines scientific expertise with hands-on leadership to ensure raw materials, in-process samples, finished APIs, stability samples, and special projects are tested safely, accurately, and on schedule. Working closely with Manufacturing, Quality, and other site teams, the supervisor develops team capability, resolves laboratory challenges, and promotes a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact by helping ensure every product meets the quality standards our customers, and their patients, depend on.

This position primarily supports evening-shift operations and requires flexibility to work outside normal business hours based on operational needs.

Essential Responsibilities

Team Leadership and Development

  • Lead, coach, and develop Quality Control Analysts, creating an environment where employees feel supported, accountable, and empowered to perform their best.ย 

  • Assign and prioritize daily work to meet testing timelines, manufacturing needs, and departmental objectives.ย 

  • Monitor team performance, productivity, and compliance, providing timely feedback, recognition, training, and performance management as appropriate.ย 

  • Ensure employees are properly trained and that required training is documented before independently performing assigned work.ย 

  • Provide technical guidance on laboratory procedures, SOPs, specifications, protocols, controlled forms, investigations, and applicable manufacturing documentation.ย 

Laboratory Operations and Technical Oversight

  • Oversee and, when needed, perform routine and non-routine analytical testing of raw materials, in-process samples, finished APIs, stability samples, and special projects.ย 

  • Review analytical data and documentation to ensure results are accurate, complete, timely, and scientifically sound.ย 

  • Apply strong knowledge of chromatography, including HPLC, UPLC, and GC, as well as other common analytical techniques and instrumentation.ย 

  • Coordinate multiple testing priorities and projects to support established schedules, deadlines, and business needs.ย 

  • Support the maintenance, calibration, qualification, and validation of laboratory instruments and equipment.ย 

  • Provide technical expertise in the evaluation and interpretation of analytical results and laboratory issues.ย 

Quality, Compliance, and Investigations

  • Ensure laboratory activities are performed in accordance with cGMP requirements, approved procedures, data integrity expectations, and applicable company and regulatory standards.ย 

  • Lead or support investigations involving out-of-specification results, deviations, laboratory events, change controls, and CAPAs, ensuring conclusions are scientifically justified and actions are completed on time.ย 

  • Author, review, and revise Quality Control SOPs, test methods, protocols, and other controlled documents.ย 

  • Identify compliance or performance risks, take appropriate action, and escalate significant concerns when necessary.ย 

  • Support audit and inspection readiness by maintaining accurate documentation, compliant laboratory practices, and a well-prepared team.ย 

Safety and Collaboration

  • Promote a safe laboratory environment and ensure compliance with the Chemical Hygiene Plan and all applicable safety procedures.

  • Communicate laboratory results, priorities, risks, and plans clearly and effectively to employees, leadership, cross-functional partners, and customers when appropriate.ย 

  • Partner with Manufacturing, Quality Assurance, Engineering, Maintenance, and other teams to resolve issues, support production schedules, and improve operational performance.ย 

  • Identify and implement opportunities to strengthen laboratory efficiency, quality, safety, and team effectiveness.ย 

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Good Manufacturing & Documentation Practices

Quality is something we take pride in together. You'll perform your work in alignment with cGMP requirements and Curia's standards, which means:

  • Perform all documentation in compliance with ALCOA++ principles and site SOPs.

  • Adhere to applicable cGMP documents including SOPs, batch records, protocols, change controls, and controlled forms.

  • Keep all required cGMP training current and escalate quality concerns along with proposed solutions to the Quality department.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or another scientific discipline with relevant coursework or professional experience in analytical chemistry.ย 

  • At least 5 years of experience in a GMP- or GLP-regulated laboratory environment.ย 

  • Hands-on experience with chromatography, including HPLC, UPLC, and/or GC, and familiarity with other common analytical instruments and techniques.ย 

  • Strong working knowledge of cGMP requirements, applicable FDA regulations, and compendial standards such as USP and EP.ย 

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret analytical data, troubleshoot laboratory issues, and apply sound scientific judgment.ย 

  • Ability to organize and prioritize multiple activities while meeting changing operational needs and deadlines.ย 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information clearly and listen effectively.ย 

  • Demonstrated initiative, accountability, and ability to use team resources effectively to achieve results.ย 

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and other laboratory or quality systems required for the role.ย 

  • Ability and willingness to work an evening-shift schedule and provide support outside normal business hours when operationally necessary.ย 

Preferred

  • Previous experience leading, supervising, training, or mentoring employees in a regulated laboratory environment.ย 

  • Experience supporting pharmaceutical API manufacturing.ย 

  • Experience conducting or leading OOS investigations, deviations, CAPAs, and change controls.ย 

  • Familiarity with FDA regulations applicable to pharmaceutical manufacturing, including 21 CFR Parts 210 and 211.

Physical requirements

This role regularly requires sitting, standing, and using hands to handle or feel materials. The employee will frequently use hands and arms and communicate verbally and in writing. Occasional walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and crouching may be required. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Work environment

This position operates in a regulated manufacturing environment. The employee may be occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals (Personal Protective Equipment required), wet or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, high or precarious places, and moderate noise levels. Risk of electrical shock may be present.

The employee will help manage handling of hazardous waste for treatment, storage, and disposal, and must be familiar with applicable training requirements under the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, including waste labeling, secondary containment, chemical compatibility, storage time limits, container integrity, and proper disposal protocols.
