Position Summary

The Manager Substation Test is responsible to lead teams of employees directly or indirectly involved in testing and commissioning protection and control systems in the service territory as it relates to the transmission lines or distribution substations. Incumbents ensure correct maintenance and construction practices for protection and control equipment. The Manager oversees teams working on projects within a specific region or may be assigned to teams working on larger, complex projects or interconnections throughout the service territory. The Manager provides safe and reliable electric service while maintaining NERC compliance along with all regulatory bodies and all safety regulations. The Manager oversees the testing of the protection and control system, and the associated documentation to meet compliance. The Manager fully implements and holds subordinates accountable for safety best practices and adherence to the safety accountability model

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job.  The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity.  Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.โ€‹

A reasonable salary range is:

Miniumum Base Salary(Bay Area):$151,000

Mid Base Salary(Bay Area):$204,000

Maximum Base Salary(Bay Area):$257,000

Minimum Base Salary (California):$143,000

Mid Base Salary (California): $194,000

Maximum Base Salary (California): $244,000

Job Responsibilities

โ€ข Ensures Substation Test work is completed on time, within budget and to quality expectations while adhering to safety and regulatory compliance and preparing for emergency situations.

โ€ข Manages large capital and operating expense budgets to ensure work identified in the Operating Plan is completed and unit cost targets are achieved.

โ€ข Coordinates large complex projects across multiple supervisors in system to ensure Test resources are identified to support on time completion.

โ€ข Participates in developing effective department metrics to measure performance against annual or longer-term goals and objectives for time bound projects or ongoing operational work. Provides data for department performance to management and adjusts based on business needs.

โ€ข Develops and manages department budget, regularly monitoring expenses against forecast, providing explanation or justification for budget items and/or variances

Qualifications

Minimum:

โ€ข Bachelorโ€™s Degree in Engineering, Business Management, or Project Management or related degree or equivalent related experience in installation and maintenance of protection and control equipment in Substation.

โ€ข 10 years of experience in the electric utility industry including 5 yearsโ€™ experience in Protection and Control Testing.

โ€ข 5 yearsโ€™ experience in leadership.

Desired:

โ€ข Masterโ€™s Degree in Engineering, Business Management, or Project Management or related degree.

โ€ข Certificate of completion of Apprenticeship in the occupation of Electrical Technician

โ€ข PMP โ€ข Lean Six Sigma (LSS)

โ€ข P.E. license

โ€ข Knowledge of IBEW represented employeesโ€™ contract
