Position Summary: The Construction Project Engineer is responsible for schedule preparation, pre-planning, forecasting and assuring project accuracy and quality from conception to completion.
In this role, the Project Engineer will provide both technical and administrative assistance to the Construction Project Manager (PM) and Superintendent reporting directly to the
the Construction Project Manager for all other activities. Construction Project Engineers must be detail-oriented and value teamwork and collaboration.
The rate of pay for this position is $65,000 - $72,500 per year, commensurate with experience (FLSA Exempt)
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Include, but are not limited to the following, as other duties may be assigned:
RFP and Qualifications
  • Assist Project Manager (PM) with subcontractor Request for Proposals (RFPs)
  • Assist with Prequalification's of subcontractors

Buyout Process:
  • Works with PM to ensure good decisions for the company and project during the buyout process
  • Assists in addressing schedule in Subcontractor Scope
  • Assists PM in completing project buyouts
  • Assists in preparation of complete subcontract Scope of Work
  • Practices good negotiating skills
  • Fully reviews drawings & specifications in preparation of subcontractor scope
  • Understands contract documents and identifies gaps in the systems

Documentation:
  • Maintains & assists PM with preparation of Weekly Project Update accurately and on time
  • Maintains and updates Purchasing Schedule
  • Maintains and updates a complete Submittal Log
  • Reviews submittals for conformance to contract documents
  • Tracks submittal process timely
  • Identifies lead times for materials purchases and tracks fabrication/ ROJ dates
  • Maintains and updates Subcontractor Change Order Log
  • Maintains and updates Owner Change Order Log
  • Maintains and updates Lost Day Log
  • Maintains and updates RFI Log
  • Generates subcontractor meeting agendas and minutes
  • Accurate and timely documentation of project issues
  • Administers ProCore to the fullest extent for every project
  • Maintains project document list
  • Reviews project documents & creates RFIs in a timely manner

Subcontractor Management
Maintains open communication with subcontractors
  • Works with PMs and Superintendents to recognize underperforming subcontractors timely with project notifications
  • Reviews subcontractor change order proposals for accuracy of quantities, conformance with contract documents and subcontractor scope of work

Owner Relationships
  • Proactively thinks about owner issues
  • Handles clients' needs with a sense of Urgency
  • Adapts to different client's individual personalities, needs, and wants
  • Handles miscellaneous owner requests
  • Participates in Owner, Architect Contractor meetings
  • Understands and exceeds client expectations

Project Safety
  • Actively assists Safety Officer, Quality Control Manager and project superintendent with enforcement of site safety and distribution of respective reports.

Project Schedule
  • Distributes overall project schedule monthly (minimum)
  • Will take necessary actions to maintain or improve project schedule
  • Keeps current on weekly job site work activities

Teamwork
  • Shows respect for duties of other team members
  • Supports and interacts with project PM to perform as a cohesive team
  • Supports and interacts with Site Superintendent to perform as a cohesive team
  • Participates in weekly subcontractor meetings
  • Reviews project bulletins and identifies scope of work changes
  • Coordinates local city permit and utilities company requirements with related subcontractors and owner requirements
  • Can identify quality issues in the field and communicate them accordingly

Project Closeout
  • Performs pre-punch list walk thru with PM and Superintendent
  • Makes closing out the project a priority
  • Enforces contract close-out timeline and notifies subcontractors.
  • Works with PM in collecting all close out documents
  • Assembles O&M Manuals

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements:
Education:
  • Four (4) year degree from an accredited university or college in related field of construction or equivalent work experience.

Experience:
  • 1-3 years of construction experience working in multi-family housing environments. OSHA 30 Certified or certified within 90 days of accepting position. Procore Field Engineer trained.

Skills:
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, Outlook, Power Point.
  • Familiarity with Procore Construction Management Software Packages.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including demonstrated skill in making effective presentations at public forums and facilitating community group discussions.
  • Strong negotiating skills and sound political acumen.
  • Ability to read, interpret and evaluate construction documents.
  • Self-motivated with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service orientation.
  • Ability to take initiative and improve efficiency of work responsibilities.
  • OSHA 10 certified.
  • Must be detail oriented and possess strong organizational skills.

Other:
  • Must have valid driver's license, current automobile insurance, and access to a car.
  • This position requires travel to all areas of Cleveland, and Lorain county as well as infrequent trips to locations within a three-hour drive of Cleveland.
