Your Opportunity
Stantec's Water practice has an immediate opportunity for an experienced Resident Inspector to join our Construction Services team. This position will be based out of our Providence, RI or Hingham, MA office.
The successful candidate will work on challenging and diverse tasks in a consulting and construction management role that will require application of technical skills, project delivery, and leadership for construction projects. These projects may consist of installing water pipelines, installing new or rehabilitating existing sewer and storm drain collection systems, constructing, or upgrading water and wastewater treatment plants, pump stations and associated infrastructure and performing sitework for municipal water and sewer facilities. A significant portion of the work is located in densely populated urban neighborhoods with high volumes of both pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
Your Key Responsibilities
  • Assists in inspecting and reviewing projects during construction, monitoring conformance with plans, specifications, and other codes and regulations.
  • Assists in monitoring the progress of construction activities, ensuring cost, schedule and quality standards are met.
  • Reports to the Resident Engineer and continues communications with Project Manager, design professionals, client, owner, developer, or contractor.
  • Provides Project Team with updates on project progress or delays to client, design professionals, and/or contractor.
  • Reviews change orders and field orders for reasonableness of pricing and constructability.
  • Assists in obtaining necessary permits and licenses for timely opening of site.
  • Reviews plans, specifications, requests for information, submittals, construction schedules, shop drawings and pay applications (QA/QC).
  • Prepares documents and maintains file management of project-related information including correspondence, reports, and pictures.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature and level as assigned.

  • Working knowledge of local, state, and federal building codes, construction principles, techniques and procedures, occupational hazards, and safety precautions.
  • Takes initiative on tasks and in coordinating with other members of the project team, obtaining and sharing necessary information.
  • Strong organizational skills and understanding of task assignment and schedule.
  • Self-starter, can work independently and knows how to get along with contractors on a project site.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in understanding engineering drawings for infrastructure rehabilitation, replacement and upgrades desired.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office required.
  • Experience with AutoCAD very beneficial.
  • Construction management training very beneficial.

Education and Experience
Civil Engineering or Construction Management degree or equivalent in related field and the desire to work in Construction Services. Minimum 2 years of experience, 3-5 years is preferred.
Position will work in both a field and office setting. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Must be available to travel for out-of-town projects when needed.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
