Concrete Lab Technician I

What are we looking for?

Professional Service Industries, Inc. (Intertek-PSI) is actively seeking a Entry Level Construction Material Testing Technician  to join our Building & Construction team in Austin, Texas. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with concrete testing experience who is looking to grow their career in the construction materials testing industry.

We are seeking a Concrete Lab Technician I with experience performing concrete strength testing and laboratory testing procedures. The ideal candidate will have experience conducting compressive strength, shrinkage, mortar, and grout testing while maintaining accurate test documentation and reporting results to project teams.

This position requires strong attention to detail, the ability to follow established testing procedures, and a commitment to safety and quality.

What You'll Do

In this role, you will perform field concrete testing activities on active construction sites to verify compliance with project specifications and industry standards. Primary responsibilities include conducting fresh concrete testing, observing concrete placement operations, and collecting and sampling concrete cylinders for laboratory testing and quality assurance purposes.

You will accurately document test results, field observations, and project data while maintaining complete and organized records. The position requires adherence to established testing procedures, quality control standards, and safety requirements.

Under direct supervision, you will communicate testing results, project information, and field observations with project managers, contractors, clients, and team members. You may also assist with additional construction materials testing, inspection services, and project support activities as needed to meet business and project requirements..

Minimum Requirements & Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • Minimum one (1) year of concrete strength testing experience required
  • Valid Driver's License and satisfactory driving record required
  • Basic math, calculator, and computer skills required
  • Ability to read and understand work plans and testing procedures
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work overtime, off-shift, and occasional overnight hours as required
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to maintain detailed and accurate testing documentation

Preferred Qualifications

  • ACI Concrete Strength Certification
  • Ability to obtain ACI Concrete Strength Certification within three (3) months of hire
  • Additional testing or inspection certifications relevant to the region or state
  • Experience working in a construction materials testing laboratory environment

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull 30 to 50 pounds frequently and over 50 pounds with assistance
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods
  • Ability to kneel, squat, bend, and climb as required
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat and cold
  • Ability to distinguish sounds and receive detailed verbal instructions
  • Ability to work at heights and on active construction sites when required
