Job Summary

As an Underground/Aerial Laborer, you are responsible for assisting the assigned crew by furnishing tools, materials, and supplies; cleaning work area, machines, and tools, holding materials or tools for other workers and performing traffic control duties.

Requirements for an Underground Laborer:

  • Pass a background check and drug test
  • CDL Preferred

Tasks Required for an Underground Laborer:

  • Control traffic passing near, in, or around work zones.
  • Clean or prepare construction sites to eliminate possible hazards.
  • Signal equipment operators to facilitate alignment, movement, or adjustment of machinery, equipment, or materials.
  • Read plans, instructions, or specifications to determine work activities.
  • Load, unload, or identify building materials, machinery, or tools, distributing them to the appropriate locations, according to project plans or specifications.
  • Measure, mark, or record openings or distances to layout areas where construction work will be performed.
  • Dig ditches or trenches, backfill excavations, or compact and level earth to grade specifications.
  • Tend to pumps, compressors, or generators to provide power for tools, machinery, or equipment
  • Erect or dismantle traffic barricades or other temporary structures for safety.
  • Lubricate and clean machinery, equipment, or tools.
  • Utilize machinery, such as a directional drill, to drill holes in a multitude of different types of dirt and clay.

Knowledge Required of an Underground Laborer:

  • Building and Construction- Knowledge of materials, methods, and the tools involved in underground construction for CATV telecommunications systems.
  • Mechanical- Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Safety- Knowledge of relevant safety procedures in a construction setting.
