Job description

The Construction Accounting Intern will support the accounting team in tracking, analyzing, and reconciling financial activity related to construction projects. This role offers hands-on experience with real-world transactions and exposure to the full construction accounting lifecycle, including budgeting, invoicing, and month-end close.

You'll work alongside experienced accounting professionals and gain practical insight into how accounting supports large-scale construction and investment decisions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Assist in preparing and posting journal entries related to construction accounting activities
  • Support the review and processing of construction invoices, budgets, and contracts
  • Perform monthly balance sheet reconciliations and account analysis
  • Contribute to month-end close activities, including reporting and documentation
  • Collaborate with accounting team members across experience levels
  • Research and evaluate emerging A.I. tools for accounting related functions. Collaborate with crossfunctional team members to identify opportunities for A.I. usage and adoption.

Learning & Exposure

  • Gain exposure to experienced accounting professionals, including CPAs and former Big 4 practitioners
  • Build practical skills applying accounting principles within real estate and construction environments
  • Participate in team-based projects within a structured and collaborative setting

Schedule 

The Construction Accounting Intern is expected to be in the San Diego office Monday-Thursday, per the agreed upon work schedule within our business hours of 8AM-5PM. A minimum of 20 hours per week is required during the fall and spring semesters or quarters, with up to 40 hours per week available during the summer. These requirements may be adjusted based on departmental needs.

Hourly Wage

$25.00 per hour for undergraduate and $30.00 per hour for graduate students
