Service Technician manages all in-shop, repair, maintenance, and test tasks. They diagnose errors or technical problems and determine proper solutions. They are responsible for the maintenance, repair and communication of the equipment that resides on the branch property.


Essential Functions

  • Troubleshoots and diagnoses all types of equipment to ensure proper working condition
  • Performs routine equipment clean-up and upkeep as well as safety review and pre-delivery inspections
  • Inspects, diagnoses, repairs, reconditions and adjusts heavy equipment as required and completes all paperwork on the equipment to which the individual is assigned
  • Participate in all training programs directed by Manager
  • Bring to the attention of the Manager any shop tools, equipment or vehicle that is not in a serviceable condition or unsafe to use
  • Maintains tools in good working order per MSHA and OSHA regulations
  • Completes basic computer tasks including completing work orders, looking up parts, and communicating via email
  • Communicates with coworkers to ensure top quality equipment is always available and customer expectation is exceeded
  • Tie workflow to schedule
  • Manage all on site installation, repair, maintenance, and test tasks
  • Diagnose errors or technical problems and determine proper solutions
  • Produce timely and detailed service reports
  • Operate vehicle in a safe manner and use field automation systems
  • Follow all company's filed procedures and protocols
  • Cooperate with technical team and share information across the organization
  • Comprehend customer requirements and make appropriate recommendations/briefings
  • Must be able and willing to help train and assist other technicians in need of assistance

Required Education and Experience

  • Extensive knowledge of diesel engines and construction equipment
  • Ability to troubleshoot, test, repair, and service technical equipment
  • Must have own tools
  • Must have a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • Ability to work flexible shifts and adapt to changing schedules
  • Military service will be considered in lieu of education/certification experience as applicable

Work Environment

  • Work is primarily conducted in construction sites, equipment yards, and transportation routes
  • Regular exposure to heavy machinery and diesel-powered equipment in operation
  • Frequent outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind
  • Physically demanding environment with uneven terrain, dust, mud, and loud noise levels
  • Duties may involve both shop-based tasks and fieldwork, including travel to remote job sites
  • Strict adherence to safety protocols is required at all times
  • Personal protective equipment (PPE) such as steel-toe boots, safety glasses, gloves, and hearing protection must be worn as needed
  • Must be comfortable operating around large equipment, performing tasks in confined spaces, or working from elevated positions
  • Lifting heavy components and materials is often required
  • Flexibility and adaptability are essential, as job site conditions and priorities can change rapidly

Travel Required

  • Required to travel to various locations for training classes/seminars
  • Drive to various vendors to acquire parts for assigned repairs

Physical Demands

  • Requires a high level of physical stamina and mobility to perform duties in jobsite and yard environments
  • Frequent lifting, carrying, and maneuvering of tools, chains, tarps, and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds or more, often without assistance
  • Regular bending, squatting, kneeling, crouching, and reaching to secure loads, inspect vehicles, or perform minor maintenance tasks
  • Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and working on foot on uneven terrain such as gravel, dirt, or pavement
  • Climbing in and out of trucks, onto trailers, or occasionally onto equipment is required
  • Must be able to work from various heights and maintain balance while performing tasks on steps, ladders, or platforms
  • Fine motor skills and good manual dexterity needed for handling controls, securing tie-downs, and completing documentation
  • Must be able to safely operate commercial vehicles and remain alert in potentially hazardous driving and yard conditions
  • Occasional pushing, pulling, and positioning of heavy materials or components may be required
