Job description

LM OVERHEAD CONSTRUCTION TECHNICIAN

Under the direct supervision of the Construction Foreman, the Construction Technician performs general construction tasks. Tasks may be skilled, semi-skilled, and/or unskilled, involving some responsibility and complexity depending on project requirements.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

1. Ensure that all tasks are carried out in a safe professional manner and in accordance with the Construction Foremanโ€™s instructions and according to recognized industry standards.

2. Must be able to work overtime hours in line with project demands and report to work punctually.

3. Must be able to understand and follow verbal and written instructions accurately and efficiently.

4. Must possess mathematical facility and knowledge to learn carpentry principles, practices, and procedures. This includes the ability to apply the principles of plumb/level/square; the ability to make foot/inch measurements and calculations; the ability to cut, shape, and otherwise modify construction materials to specification.

5. Must be able to efficiently and safely use and assist others in the use of a variety of hand and power tools. Examples of hand tools would be shovels, rakes, digging bars, hammers, brooms, pry bars, chisels, screwdrivers, wrenches, pliers, paint brushes, etc. examples of power tools would be drills, saws, sanders, grinders, planers, sprayers, jackhammers, compactors, etc.

6. Must be able to drive company vehicles safely and transport construction supplies to and from the job site safely and conscientiously.

7. Ability to develop and sustain cooperative working relationships.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities

1. Performs all forms of manual labor as directed (i.e., carrying materials, digging, compacting, shoveling, raking, seeding, mulching, laying sod, placing rocks and bricks, etc.)

2. Assists as directed with the maintenance, proper operation, and organization of all tools, equipment, storage areas, vehicles, work areas, and materials assigned to the Construction Crew.

3. Ensure that all assigned work is carried out in accordance with the Construction Foremanโ€™s directions and specifications.

4. Assists as directed with the removal and construction of vehicular bridges. This includes participating in related stream erosion tasks, off-site prefabrication, and on-site construction.

5. Assists as directed with installing basketball goals, volleyball nets, softball backstops, and related recreational equipment.

6. Assists as directed with the repair, removal, and construction of tot lots and community playgrounds.

7. Carries out basic heavy equipment duties such as loading materials on trucks (i.e., stone, sand, soil, etc.) with a skid steer and/or rubber tire equipment and transporting construction materials to and from the job site.

8. Communicates effectively and professionally with managers, foremen, and other co-workers in order to carry out work assignments efficiently and accurately.

9. Inspects vehicles and fill out appropriate vehicle inspection reports accurately.

10. Assumes other duties as assigned.

11. Compliance with all company policies, including conformity with policies relating to absence and punctuality.

Requirements

Driving Privileges:

Ability to comply with Columbia Associationโ€™s driving requirements.

Experience:

Some experience in the construction trade is preferred.

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Working familiarity, or the ability to learn, with basic construction principles, practices and procedures. This includes the ability to apply the principles of plum/ level/square, and the ability to make rudimentary foot/inch measurements and calculations. Must possess the ability to cut, drill, nail, screw, and plane and otherwise modify to specification a wide variety of building materials.

License, Certificates, etc.:

1. Possession of a valid Class C driverโ€™s license issued by the resident state.

1. Ability to obtain and maintain DOT Medical Examinerโ€™s Certification.

2. As a condition of employment, this position requires a valid Maryland CDL-Restricted A license either prior to hiring or not later than one year in the position. Failure to obtain a valid Maryland CDL-A license no later than one year in position will result in termination of employment

Physical Demands of Job:

1. Ability to perform construction-related activities for prolonged periods in adverse weather conditions (i.e., extreme cold, heat, rain, snow, humidity, etc.).

2. Must be able to work at different heights (i.e., roofs, scaffolds, ladders, genie lifts, etc.).

3. Ability to stand for the entire shift.

4. Ability to lift 80 pounds unassisted.

5. Ability to bend, stoop, reach and climb without difficulty.

Compensation:

The pay range for this position is $20 per hour to $24 per hour. The actual pay rate offered will depend on the overall qualifications of the individual applicant for the position and the amount budgeted for the role.
