Job description

Real Estate Construction Associate Attorney

Direct Counsel is seeking a Real Estate Construction Associate Attorney to join a prestigious Am Law firm in Chicago, IL; New York, NY; or St. Louis, MO.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an attorney with 3-5 years of real estate and/or construction law experience to join a growing Construction practice. The successful candidate will work on sophisticated real estate development and construction projects, advising clients on transactional matters, project development, risk management, and construction disputes.

Responsibilities
  • Draft, review, and negotiate construction and development agreements, including design-build agreements, EPC contracts, AIA contracts, and related project documentation.

  • Advise clients throughout all phases of construction projects, from project planning through completion and operation.

  • Support complex real estate development and construction transactions involving multiple stakeholders.

  • Conduct legal due diligence and research related to construction projects and risk management.

  • Assist in resolving construction disputes, including defect, delay, and other project-related claims through litigation or arbitration.

  • Collaborate with attorneys across real estate, finance, and construction practices on sophisticated matters.

  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships through practical, business-oriented legal advice.

Qualifications
  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school.

  • Active membership in the state bar where the candidate will practice.

  • 3-5 years of sophisticated real estate and/or construction law experience.

  • Experience with construction transactions, construction contracts, or real estate development is strongly preferred.

  • Construction litigation experience is a plus.

  • Previous law firm experience is required.

  • Strong drafting, negotiation, analytical, and communication skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple complex matters in a fast-paced environment.

Compensation & Benefits
  • Salary:

    • Chicago, IL; New York, NY: $260,000-$365,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

    • St. Louis, MO: Competitive, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
