Constellation information

What is a constellation?

Constellations are groups of stars that form recognizable patterns in the night sky, often named after mythological figures, animals, or objects. Astronomers use constellations to help identify and locate specific stars and celestial objects. There are 88 officially recognized constellations, and they have been used historically for navigation, storytelling, and calendar making. Today, constellations serve as a way to organize the sky and aid in astronomical observations.

Job description

Meridian is building a fundamentally new model for sovereign space infrastructure—delivering complete, owned Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellations that provide governments and commercial operators with full control, assured access, and sovereign communications capability at a fraction of the cost of developing these systems independently.

Backed by leading venture capital investors and engineering partners, we are rapidly scaling the design, production, and deployment of the satellites, ground systems, and network infrastructure that will power Meridian's next-generation constellations.

Joining Meridian means working at the forefront of one of the world's most ambitious space programs underway today - designing and building constellations that will put sovereign connectivity within reach of nations and operators worldwide. You'll be part of a close-knit, collaborative team that thrives in a fast-paced, innovative environment, where your work directly advances the design, development, and deployment of satellite constellations that governments and enterprises around the world will depend on for secure, resilient, and sovereign connectivity.

Your Mission on the Team:

In this role you will be responsible for developing and optimizing software tools that simulate advanced satellite communication constellations in low Earth orbit (LEO). You will also contribute to analyses that model the effectiveness, feasibility, and uncertainty within the Meridian system for both internal and external stakeholders. This includes:

  • Writing and applying software tools that model constellation performance, utilization, and lifecycles.
  • Conducting analyses to translate end-to-end Meridian constellation solutions to customers, including modeling global market demand for communication services and constellation support infrastructure (ground stations etc.)
  • Collaborating closely in cross-functional teams to understand how design choices impact the expected constellation performance and contribute to decisions on how to optimize this system.
  • Validate, optimize, and deploy advanced resource optimization algorithms to solve complex, multi-dimensional telecom constellation design problems such as beam placement and interference mitigation.
  • Develop world-class software using best practices, including CI/CD principles, code reviews, Agile methodologies, and project management tools.
  • Communicate effectively with project management, customers, and team members across disciplines

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, aerospace engineering, mathematics, physics or related field
  • Experience with Python for analysis, modeling, simulation, and/or algorithm development (especially NumPy and pandas)
  • Strong software engineering skills, including system design, testing, and version control.
  • Strong understanding and knowledge of 3D vector geometry and calculus
  • Ability to rapidly expand application specific knowledge sets and skills where necessary
  • Passion for understanding complexity and finding answers to challenging questions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of related industry experience and/or higher degree (master's degree or PhD) in related field
  • Experience architecting and maintaining scalable, extensible software systems.
  • Expertise in several of the following areas:
    • High-Performance Computing (HPC)
    • Distributed Computing/Cloud Computing
    • GPU Optimization
    • Agentic AI
    • Statistical Analysis
  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and modern DevOps/CI/CD practices.
  • Demonstrated success optimizing computationally intensive software for performance and scalability.
  • Experience solving complex, multi-dimensional optimization problems.
  • Experience working on satcom or other telecommunication systems
  • Experience modelling antenna radiation patterns
  • Experience working on LEO satellite constellation(s)
  • Experience in with LEO spacecraft and/or space mission top level design
