Consignment Associate information

What is a consignment associate?

Consignment Associates are professionals who work with consignment stores or businesses to manage the intake, pricing, display, and sale of consigned goods, which are items sold on behalf of their owners. They evaluate items for quality and authenticity, handle customer inquiries, and help ensure that both consignors and customers have a positive experience. Consignment Associates also track inventory, process sales transactions, and may assist with marketing or merchandising tasks. Their role is key to ensuring a smooth operation and maximizing sales for both the store and the consignors.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a consignment associate?

To thrive as a Consignment Associate, you need strong organizational abilities, attention to detail, and basic retail or inventory management experience, often supported by a high school diploma or equivalent. Familiarity with point-of-sale (POS) systems, inventory tracking software, and consignment platform tools is typically required. Excellent customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills help you build rapport with consignors and buyers alike. These skills ensure efficient processing, accurate inventory management, and positive client experiences, which are vital for success in consignment retail environments.

What are some common challenges faced by consignment associates and how can they be managed effectively?

Consignment Associates often encounter challenges such as managing fluctuating inventory levels, accurately assessing the value of incoming items, and maintaining clear communication with consignors. To manage these effectively, it's important to develop strong organizational skills, become familiar with pricing trends, and use inventory management systems. Building rapport with consignors and customers also helps ensure smooth transactions and repeat business. Regular training and staying updated on industry best practices can further support success in this role.

Job description

Description

SUCCESSFUL REPRESENTATIVES EARN $100,000+ ANNUALLY

Build Relationships. Find Boats. Build Your Business.

Boater's World Marine Centers is looking for a high-energy, outgoing, sales-driven Consignment Sales Consultant to help grow one of the most important parts of our business - our inventory.

This is not a position where you sit at a desk and wait for leads to come in. Our most successful Consignment Sales Consultants create opportunities. They build relationships with boat owners, prospect for boats, work their networks, use social media to market themselves, follow up relentlessly, and negotiate confidently over the phone and in person.

If you are competitive, positive, comfortable talking to people, and motivated by the opportunity to control your own income, this could be an outstanding career opportunity.

What You'll Do

  • You will work directly with boat owners who are considering selling their boats and help them determine whether selling directly to Boater's World or consigning with us is the right solution.
  •  Prospect for boats through Facebook Marketplace, online listings, referrals, existing customers, dealership opportunities, and your own network.
  • Market yourself through social media and develop your personal presence as someone boat owners can contact when they are ready to sell.
  • Make outbound calls and consistently follow up with prospective sellers.
  • Build relationships and manage multiple active conversations at the same time.
  • Negotiate purchase and consignment opportunities confidently over the phone and in person.
  • Convert conversations into appointments, purchases, and signed consignment agreements.
  • Stay in communication with clients throughout the consignment process.
  • Maintain accurate activity and follow-up in our CRM.
  • Work closely with dealership management and the sales team to bring desirable, marketable inventory into the dealership.

Requirements

This role is built for someone with a hunter mentality. You should be:

  • Outgoing and comfortable starting conversations with people you don't know.
  • High-energy, positive, competitive, and self-motivated.
  • Comfortable marketing yourself and the dealership on social media.
  • Confident making outbound calls and generating your own opportunities.
  • Comfortable discussing money and negotiating with customers over the phone.
  • Persistent with follow-up and comfortable asking for the business.
  • Able to build rapport quickly and earn a customer's trust.
  • Organized enough to manage a large pipeline of opportunities.
  • Motivated by performance and commission-based compensation.
  • Someone who takes ownership of results rather than waiting for opportunities to happen.

Experience

We prefer candidates with at least 2 years of sales experience, particularly in automotive sales, marine sales, RV or powersports sales, BDC/Internet sales, inside sales, consignment, acquisitions, or another high-activity sales

environment.

Marine experience is helpful, but sales ability, personality, work ethic, and the ability to create opportunities are more important.

Experience using Facebook Marketplace, social media, CRM systems, online listings, or other prospecting tools is strongly preferred.

Why Boater's World?

You'll have the opportunity to build your own pipeline while working with an established marine dealership and a recognized brand. We provide the dealership infrastructure, inventory demand, financing capabilities, marketing support, processes, and leadership - you bring the energy, relationships, prospecting, and ability to close

.For the right person, this isn't simply another sales job. It is an opportunity to build a book of business, develop a personal brand within the boating community, and create a six-figure career.

OUR SUCCESSFUL REPRESENTATIVES EARN $100,000+ ANNUALLY.

If you're outgoing, competitive, comfortable picking up the phone, willing to market yourself, and excited about creating your own opportunities, we want to talk to you.
