What are some common challenges faced by a conservationist in balancing environmental goals with community needs?

As a Conservationist, one of the most frequent challenges is finding a balance between protecting natural resources and addressing the needs of local communities who may rely on those resources for their livelihoods. This often involves engaging in open dialogue with stakeholders, conducting thorough environmental impact assessments, and developing management plans that aim for sustainable use rather than strict preservation. Effective Conservationists must be skilled in negotiation and collaboration, working closely with government agencies, non-profits, and local residents to create solutions that benefit both the environment and the people who depend on it.

Job description

Clinical Specialist

Aware Health is a rapidly scaling health tech startup revolutionizing musculoskeletal (MSK) care. Nearly 50% of the workforce experiences MSK pain, from acute issues like muscle strains to chronic conditions. Unfortunately, many are misdiagnosed and treated passively with opioids, injections, or surgery, often leading to unnecessary risks and costs.

At Aware Health, we empower Doctors of Physical Therapy to lead the care process, providing immediate diagnosis and evidence-based treatment to patients. You will primarily manage your diverse caseload through our cutting-edge telehealth platform, ensuring people receive high-quality care wherever they are. This is a role where you will truly practice at the top of your license, acting as the primary MSK expert, leading clinical decisions, and steering patients away from unnecessary high-cost procedures.

If you are a resourceful, high-performing PT ready to escape the limitations of traditional clinic settings and shape the future of conservative MSK care, we want you.

Role Highlights
  • Clinical Autonomy and Direct Access Care: You will be the primary MSK expert, diagnosing and driving the care plan from day one. You lead the decision-making.
  • Dynamic Hybrid Model: Enjoy the optimal blend of in-office collaboration and remote flexibility. This role requires 2-3 days per week in New Haven, CT (utilizing our dedicated telehealth setup) as well as working remotely from home. Additionally, expect occasional onsite days for in-person customer treatments and corporate events.
  • Be a Catalyst for Change: Join a movement focused on evidence-based, conservative care that actively combats the overuse of low-value healthcare procedures.
  • Innovative Delivery Model: Leverage cutting-edge technology and data analytics to optimize patient engagement and outcomes in a modern hybrid structure.
What Will Make You Successful in This Role:
  • Account Ownership: Drive account-level engagement growth for customer accounts you are assigned.
  • Data-driven Assessment: Contribute to reduction in MSK trends across those assigned accounts, demonstrating ability to identify cost drivers and implement scalable interventions
  • Converting High-Risk Users: Proactively identify potential patients through contacting, scheduling, and evaluating them to reduce downstream costs.
  • Clinical Excellence: Maintain > 80% visit completion and plan-of-care adherence amongst active patients, indicating strong patient buy-in, stellar communication, and contributing to reducing MSK costs and surgical rates.
Clinical Excellence:
  • Evaluate and treat a diverse and complex caseload across all MSK domains (spine, extremities, pelvic health, TMJ, etc.) via telehealth.
  • Conduct meticulous differential diagnosis and triage, confidently ruling out non-MSK causes and determining the need for referral or imaging based on evidence-based guidelines.
  • Guide patients through comprehensive health and wellness programs beyond passive treatments.
  • Clearly explain diagnoses, prognoses, and treatment plans and adjust them to meet patients' evolving needs.
  • Work directly with the Customer Success team to lead initiatives focused on maximizing customer engagement and informing effective marketing tactics.
Logistics & Adaptability:
  • Maintain strict organization to track patient progress, outcomes, and drive internal metrics.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with team members and patients.
  • Demonstrate a growth mindset and flexibility, including occasional schedule adjustments (evenings/weekends) for on-site events or team needs.
Qualifications:
  • Must hold a Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) and be actively licensed to practice in D.C..
  • Must be based in the New Haven, CT (or surrounding CT area), willing to work from our Connecticut space 2-3 days/week, and willing to travel monthly for onsite clinical care and events.
  • Having already obtained board certification in Orthopedic Physical Therapy or strong preference for sitting for the OCS.
Bonus Points:
  • Licensure in states surrounding CT
  • OCS certification
  • Managerial experience
  • Bi/Multilingual (Spanish-speaking is a plus)
