The Community You Will Join

HuffPost is looking for an energetic, scoop-hungry reporter to cover the conservative movement, the Republican Party, and right-wing media. An ideal candidate has a proven track record of breaking news and building sources on the American right, while also writing sharp news stories on deadline and informative features. They should get inside the minds of decision-makers and opinion-shapers and highlight emerging trends on the right – in both the corridors of power and the influencer ecosystem. Candidates based in Washington, D.C. or New York are strongly preferred, though extraordinary applicants based elsewhere will be considered.

A Typical Day

  • Break important news on the conservative movement — about MAGA media stars, White House power players, influential think tanks and more
  • Write buzzy, deeply reported stories on the topics driving political discussion
  • Appear on TV, radio, podcasts and social media to promote your work
  • Be willing to travel extensively to cover elections
  • Collaborate extensively with both the politics team and other teams in the newsroom

  • At least 5 years of political reporting experience, with a proven track record of getting scoops
  • Extensive knowledge of American conservatism, its key figures and the forces that drive and divide the movement – and the ability to convey all of it to everyday readers
  • Deep sourcing in national politics, strong news judgment and intellectual curiosity
  • The demonstrated ability to write cleanly on deadline
  • A mind brimming with interesting and important story ideas
