The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) serves as Knutson Construction's enterprise leader for technology strategy, vision, integration, transformation, and governance. This role is responsible for shaping how technology enables business performance, supports growth, and strengthens differentiation across markets. The CTO integrates IT, data & analytics, cybersecurity, and artificial intelligence (AI) into a cohesive enterprise capability that enhances operational execution, risk management, and The Knutson Experience (TKE).
This role partners closely with the Executive Leadership Team, Operations, Finance, Safety, and Market Sector Leadership to align technology investments and capabilities with Knutson's strategic priorities, while reinforcing the company's Zero Incident Safety Culture and commitment to continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

Enterprise Technology Strategy & Leadership

  • Serve as a strategic partner and advisor to the President and Executive Leadership Team on strategic enterprise technology direction, priorities, investments, opportunities, and risks.
  • Translate Knutson's strategic plan into an integrated technology roadmap across IT, data, AI, and cybersecurity, ensuring technology alignment with enterprise goals, growth and risk tolerance.
  • Provide forward-looking insights into emerging technologies and trends impacting construction and project delivery.

Technology Integration & Transformation

  • Lead enterprise-wide digital transformation initiatives to improve performance, scalability, and consistency.
  • Integrate technology across Operations, Preconstruction, Finance, HR, and Safety functions.
  • Develop scalable, repeatable frameworks and standards to enable consistent execution across the company.
  • Drive process improvement through automation, system integration, and standardization.

Data, Analytics & AI Leadership

  • Define and lead the enterprise data strategy, including governance, architecture, and standards to ensure data quality, integrity, accessibility, and responsible AI use.
  • Advance analytics and AI capabilities by identifying, prioritizing, and scaling use cases that enhance project delivery, decision-making, and risk management.
  • Enable a data-driven organization by promoting adoption of analytics, reporting, and insights across all functions and levels.
  • Integrate automation and intelligent technologies into core business processes to drive efficiency, consistency, and actionable insights.

IT & Infrastructure Leadership

  • Oversee enterprise IT operations, infrastructure, cloud environments, networks, end-user services, and systems to ensure reliability and scalability.
  • Align technology platforms with business and field execution needs.
  • Guide system selection, vendor strategy, and technology architecture decisions.
  • Ensure system reliability, scalability, and performance across office and field operations.
  • Lead enterprise application strategy, integration, and optimization efforts.

Cybersecurity & Risk Management

  • Oversee enterprise cybersecurity strategy and partner with security leadership to protect systems and data.
  • Integrate technology risk management into broader enterprise risk management processes.
  • Ensure business continuity and disaster recovery capabilities are in place and effective.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory & client-specific requirements and industry standards.

Safety & The Knutson Experience (TKE) Alignment

  • Ensure technology solutions support and reinforce Knutson's Zero Incident Safety Culture.
  • Enable field teams with tools that improve safety awareness, reporting, and hazard identification.
  • Align technology initiatives with The Knutson Experience (TKE) to enhance outcomes for clients, partners, and employees.
  • Enable real-time communication, reporting, and visibility into safety-related data.

Innovation & Market Enablement

  • Identify opportunities to leverage technology to support new and existing markets.
  • Support pursuit strategies and client engagement through technology-enabled differentiation.

People Leadership

  • Build and lead a scalable, high-performing technology organization across IT, data, AI, and cybersecurity.

Financial & Investment Leadership

  • Develop and manage the enterprise technology budget and investment strategy.

  • Evaluate and manage external vendors, partners, and service providers.

Qualifications & Experience:

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (required). Master's degree or MBA preferred.

Experience

  • 15+ years of progressive leadership in technology, digital transformation, or related fields.
  • 710+ years in senior or executive technology leadership roles.
  • Proven experience leading enterprise technology strategy and transformation.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise systems, data platforms, AI, cybersecurity, IT infrastructure, cloud, data and analytics.
  • Demonstrated success in scaling teams and capabilities in a growth-oriented organization.
  • Experience in construction or a comparable project-based industry preferred.

Preferred Certifications

  • CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional).
  • CISM (Certified Information Security Manager).
  • PMP (Project Management Professional).
  • AWS, Azure, or equivalent cloud certifications.
  • Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP).
