What are computer jobs?

Computer jobs refer to a wide range of careers that involve working with computers, technology, and information systems. These roles can include positions such as software developers, IT support specialists, network administrators, data analysts, computer engineers, and cybersecurity experts. People in computer jobs may design, build, maintain, or troubleshoot computer hardware and software systems for businesses, organizations, or individuals. These positions often require technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and knowledge of programming languages or computer systems. The field offers diverse opportunities and is in high demand due to the increasing reliance on technology in nearly every industry.

What are the requirements to get a computer job?

The requirements to get a computer job vary with the position. Nearly all computer jobs require at least a high school diploma or GED certificate, and most require advanced qualifications, such as an associate or bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, or a closely related field. Essential skills for any computer career include technical ability, knowledge of coding principles, strong mathematical skills, and great attention to detail. Jobs with management responsibilities require leadership and interpersonal skills.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a computer technician, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Computer Technician, you need strong knowledge of computer hardware, software troubleshooting, and networking, typically supported by a relevant associate degree or certifications like CompTIA A+. Familiarity with diagnostic tools, operating systems, and repair management systems is often required. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and customer service skills help technicians work efficiently with clients and team members. These skills ensure timely and effective resolution of technical issues, minimizing downtime and supporting smooth IT operations.

What are some common challenges faced by computer technicians when troubleshooting hardware issues, and how can they effectively address them?

Computer technicians often encounter hardware problems that can be difficult to diagnose, such as intermittent failures, compatibility issues, or faulty components. One common challenge is accurately identifying whether the issue is caused by hardware or software. Effective technicians use systematic troubleshooting steps—such as running diagnostic tests, swapping out suspected parts, and consulting technical documentation—to isolate the root cause. Strong communication skills are also essential, as technicians often need to explain technical issues and solutions to users who may not have a technical background.

Job description

Job Summary
Four Daughters Millwork LLC is looking for a talented Millwork CAD Drafter to join our team. This position is ideal for someone who combines strong CAD skills with practical thinking—someone who doesn't just create a drawing but considers how the piece will actually be built, assembled, and installed.

Experience in architectural millwork, cabinetry, casework, or woodworking is highly preferred, but we are willing to train the right CAD professional in millwork. If you are proficient in CAD, have strong mechanical aptitude, and enjoy figuring out how things fit together, we want to hear from you.
What You'll Do
  • Create accurate and detailed shop and production drawings for custom architectural millwork projects.
  • Develop drawings using AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks from architectural plans, specifications, sketches, field measurements, and project information.
  • Translate architectural design intent into practical, buildable millwork components.
  • Detail dimensions, materials, hardware, fastening methods, clearances, assemblies, and installation requirements.
  • Review architectural drawings, specifications, redlines, and field information to identify conflicts or missing details.
  • Revise drawings based on project changes, internal reviews, field conditions, and production feedback.
  • Check drawings for dimensional accuracy, fit, tolerances, and constructability before release.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Production, Purchasing, and other team members to resolve technical questions.
  • Support the development of as-built drawings and project documentation.
  • Learn and apply company standards for millwork construction, materials, hardware, fabrication, and installation.
What We're Looking For
CAD proficiency is the foundation of this position. We're looking for someone who can produce accurate technical drawings and has the ability to think through how components work in the real world.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD; SolidWorks or other 3D CAD experience is a plus.
  • Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, blueprints, shop drawings, sketches, redlines, and field measurements.
  • Strong understanding of dimensions, tolerances, clearances, and basic fabrication principles.
  • Good mechanical and spatial reasoning—the ability to visualize how individual parts become a finished assembly.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and drawing accuracy.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with Project Management and Production teams.
  • Willingness to learn new materials, construction methods, hardware, and manufacturing processes.
Millwork Experience is a Plus — CAD Ability Is Essential !
However, we also welcome experienced CAD drafters coming from:
  • Mechanical or manufacturing drafting
  • Architectural drafting
  • Metal or custom fabrication
  • Machine shops
  • Construction
  • Furniture or cabinetry manufacturing
  • Other custom-production environments
If you're a strong CAD drafter who understands how things are made, we can teach you millwork.

Education & Experience
  • Associate degree or technical certificate in drafting, CAD, engineering technology, architecture, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Equivalent hands-on drafting experience will also be considered.
  • 2–3 years of professional CAD drafting experience preferred.
  • Architectural millwork experience is highly desirable but not required for a candidate with strong CAD proficiency and mechanical aptitude.
What Makes This Opportunity Different
  • Your drawings don't end on the computer screen
  • As a Millwork CAD Drafter, you'll have the opportunity to work closely with the people who build what you draw, see projects move through production, learn from experienced millwork professionals, and develop a deeper understanding of custom architectural fabrication.
If you already know architectural millwork, we'd love to put that experience to work.
If you're great at CAD and ready to learn millwork, we'd like to meet you too.

Four Daughters Millwork LLC is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
