Job Description
JOB SUMMARY:
The purpose of the Marine Service Technician Trainee is to inspect, service and install fire systems and associated equipment in marine settings.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:
  • Assist Marine Service Technicians with inspecting, servicing, and installing fire protection and life safety systems, ensuring compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and manufacturer requirements.
  • Utilize tools and test equipment such as power tools, wrenches, and drills to perform assigned tasks.
  • Inspect, service, troubleshoot, identify defective components, repair or replace damaged components under direct supervision of an experienced Marine Service Technician.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers in a professional manner.
  • Required to be punctual to required work locations and complete scheduled projects in timely manner.
  • Use Field Service software to track work orders, materials needed, time on job, etc.
  • Complete accurate and thorough documentation for all work orders.
  • Understand and adhere to all relevant codes, regulations, and safety standards.
  • Follow SFS's Safety Program, including Hazardous Communication policies and procedures.
  • Be placed in on-call status as required by location to handle emergency service requests.
  • Periodically attend seminars or similar education/training sessions to stay abreast of latest technology, codes, and standards changes.
  • Be fluent in operations and service of equipment as per manufacturers training.
  • Participate in weekly Toolbox talks.
  • Must know where all related safety documentation is at all times on each project.
  • Communicate with internal and external customers in a professional manner.
  • Successful completion of Summit's Marine Approved Service Technician (M.A.S.T.) program.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS
The qualifications listed below are representative of the elements required to perform the job successfully,however in some cases, an equivalent combination of Education, Training, Certifications and Experience may meet the job qualifications.
Education, Training, Certifications:
  • HS Diploma or equivalent, required.

Experience, Knowledge, Skill Requirements:
  • 0-1 years Fire Life Safety Industry experience, specifically in Fire and Security Equipment in marine applications is an advantage, preferred.

Communication Skills:
  • Must have the ability to effectively read, write and communicate in English with employees and customers.

Systems and Software Skills:
  • 1+ years of professional computer skills.

Other Qualifications:
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record required.
  • Must be able to comply with SFS's Drug and Alcohol policy and Background screening requirements, which may also include customer specific requirements based on contractual agreement
  • Must be able to travel 90% of the time, locally.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to work on board in-water vessels, bend, ascend and descend step stools, ladders and stairs, kneel, lift <50lbs, reach above and below shoulders, stand and walk for extended periods of time.
Employee is required to see in color, close and far distances, peripheral, depth, and adjust focus.
Employee will occasional be required to balance, crouch, drive, kneel, lift >50lbs, sit, stoop, twist, and work at heights.
Work Environment:
Frequent local travel and occasional regional and non-regional travel is required.
Employee will frequently be required to work inside and outside in hot/cold temperatures and be exposed to loud noises, cramped quarters, dust, fumes and odors, standing on hard surfaces, and electrical hazards frequently.
Employees will occasionally be exposed to chemicals, moving machinery, uneven and slippery surfaces.
Employee must consistently wear all appropriate personal protective equipment, as required by company safety policies.
