Job description

Teacher Assistant

The Secaucus Board of Education invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of Teacher Assistant.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • A minimum of sixty (60) credits toward a bachelor's degree.
  • Pass the State School Security Clearance
  • Ability to provide assistance, encouragement, and support to special needs children
  • Valid regular or substitute teacher certificate, recorded in Hudson County
  • Ability to keep information confidential
  • Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Disposition compatible with the needs displayed by children with varied educational disabilities
  • Willingness to work with students at all grade levels
  • Willingness to provide discrete trial training
  • Computer literacy 

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Provide individual or small group tutoring to students at a time when a student would not otherwise receive instruction from a teacher
  • Assist with classroom management, such as organizing instructional and other materials
  • Provide individual assistance and/or work with small groups of students under the direction and supervision of the certified teacher to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher
  • Report to the teacher noted progress and difficulties of individuals students with whom assistant is working
  • Provide assistance in a computer laboratory
  • Provide assistance in a library or media center
  • Provide assistance in playground supervision
  • Provide assistance with organizing, duplicating, and distributing educational materials in the classroom
  • Act as a translator
  • Engage children in conversation to encourage language development
  • Any specialized duty deemed necessary by the Principal or designee
  • Attend all workshops/seminars scheduled by the District for faculty members
  • Teacher assistants will accompany and remain with a class at specials at the discretion of the principal or designee.
  • Teacher assistants will provide support for special education students in the mainstream classes

SALARY AND EMPLOYMENT

Salary Range:         $41,310,Step 1 Teaching Assistant Guide as per the 2023-2026 SEA Contract

Employment Period:         2026-2027 School Year
