Job description

Description Purpose of Job Perform skilled technical work providing support for the city's information technology systems, hardware, software, network connectivity, and end-user technology needs under the direction of the Information Technology Systems & Network Administrator. Essential Job Duties Provide technical support and troubleshooting for citywide computer systems, hardware, networks, servers, telecommunications, and related technology infrastructure. Install, configure, maintain, and upgrade desktops, laptops, mobile devices, printers, and other network-connected equipment.

Provide user support and assist with the administration and maintenance of Microsoft 365, email services, file storage systems, and cloud-based applications. Assist with cybersecurity monitoring, endpoint protection, software updates, and remediation efforts under the direction of the IT Systems & Network Administrator. Support deployment, patch management, and lifecycle replacement of city technology assets, including imaging and configuration of new equipment.

Maintain accurate documentation of IT systems, configurations, inventories, licensing, and procedures to support continuity of operations. Provide Help Desk and technical support to city personnel regarding IT needs and service requests. Assist with implementation and support of cloud-based services and platforms (e.g., Azure, Microsoft 365 Admin Center, cloud backups, and remote access tools)

Provide technical support for citywide projects, software implementations, and departmental technology improvements under the direction of the IT Systems & Network Administrator. Assist with maintenance and troubleshooting of the city's VoIP telephone system, including user support, extensions, connectivity issues, and coordination with vendors as assigned. Install, configure, and troubleshoot network connections, cabling, wireless devices, and related network equipment.

Troubleshoot connectivity, hardware, software, and user access issues and provide timely resolution or escalation as appropriate. Perform routine maintenance, updates, testing, and repairs of computer systems, network equipment, and related technology devices. Assist with setup, deployment, and maintenance of PCs, phones, mobile devices, audiovisual equipment, and peripheral technology equipment.

Assist with IT-related components of grant applications or public funding programs, including documentation of system needs and cost estimates. Other Job Duties Provide technical administration and support for city website platforms and assist departmental content owners as needed. Coordinate with vendors and service providers as assigned.

Assist with the implementation and testing of IT backup and disaster recovery procedures to ensure continuity of operations. Support digital transformation initiatives such as paperless processes, workflow automation, and remote work infrastructure. Administer mobile device management (MDM) systems and support mobile workforce needs.

Maintain IT asset inventory and ensure proper documentation of all hardware, software, and licenses. Attend monthly board meetings to support meeting recording, livestreaming, and audiovisual technology operations. Perform other related work as required.

Primary Job Challenges Responding to multiple technical support requests and urgent situations under pressure while maintaining daily operational responsibilities. Handling confidential information with integrity and discretion. Balancing daily end-user support needs with ongoing infrastructure maintenance and project implementation activities.

Supporting a full-service municipality (including electric, gas, water, and wastewater utility operations) with diverse infrastructure and specialized hardware/software. Adapting to evolving technology systems, cybersecurity requirements, software updates, and changing operational priorities while assisting users through technology transitions. Equipment Operated Hardware, including but not limited to desktop PCs, laptops, servers, tablets, and smartphones.

Audio/Visual equipment, including but not limited to cameras, microphones, sound systems, CCTV, projectors, etc., and associated software. Telecommunications equipment, including but not limited to phone systems, public access channel systems, etc. Tools required for the installation and maintenance of IT equipment

An automobile and/or truck. Key Competencies Required Knowledge of IT hardware systems, software platforms, networking, and cybersecurity principles. Knowledge of Microsoft 365, Windows operating systems, including Windows Server 2016, Windows Server 2019, Windows Server 2022, and Red Hat Linux.

Knowledge of ERP infrastructure and enterprise software relationships. Knowledge of websites, domain services, and email tenant administration. Knowledge of cybersecurity compliance frameworks (e.g., CJIS, NIST) applicable to municipal environments

Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues related to user accounts, connectivity, hardware, software, printers, and mobile devices. Ability to provide responsive customer service and technical support to city employees with varying levels of technical knowledge. Ability to assist with system updates, equipment deployment, inventory tracking, and technology lifecycle replacement activities.

Ability to clearly communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences, both verbally and in writing. Ability to operate and support remote monitoring tools, mobile device management systems, and audiovisual equipment. Ability to maintain accurate technical documentation, asset inventories, and support records.

Ability to prioritize multiple support requests and respond effectively to urgent technical issues. Ability to work independently and collaboratively while supporting citywide technology operations. Physical Demands and Work Environment May be required to sit, stoop, climb, walk, bend, and lift equipment up to 50 lbs.

Work primarily occurs in an office setting but may include other environments for support or installations. Must be available to respond to IT emergencies after hours. Qualifications Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field and at least five years of relevant experience is required; or an associate degree and six years of experience; or a master's degree and one year of experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and abilities.

Required Certifications/Licenses: Certifications in Cisco, CompTIA, and Microsoft are desired but not required. Must obtain Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) compliance certification within six months of employment. Must possess a valid Class D driver's license issued by the State of Tennessee.

Must pass a physical examination based on the essential functions of the job conducted by the city's designated physician. Must pass a background and credit screening conducted by the city's designated representative.
