The purpose of this classification is to provide technical support in a team environment with continual supervision involving the installation and maintenance of the Hamilton County Department of Education's Telecommunications systems and provide customer technical support and training of telecommunications features and functionality. This is an entry level position.
Responsibilities
Employees in this position work under the direction of a team leader or the network administrator to learn HCDE procedures for providing support to the schools. Work is continually monitored with frequent guidance provided by the team leader and/or network administrator.
  • Acts in a professional, respectful, and courteous manner at all times.
  • Creates a customer-focused climate and provides quality services and support to school and other stakeholders.
  • Complies with applicable district, state, and federal codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Assists in the installation, configuration and maintenance of Telecommunication hardware and services.
  • Troubleshoots telecommunication hardware and software problems.
  • Installs and upgrades telecommunication software/hardware.
  • Utilizes appropriate tools and systems to monitor and troubleshoot telecommunication resources.
  • Demonstrates the use of installed telecommunication system to end users.
  • Communicates through the proper channels to keep supervisor and other appropriate personnel informed of impending problems or events of unusual nature.
  • Follows established procedures for ensuring assigned areas are safe.
  • Works collaboratively with school staff, students, parents, and other stakeholders.
  • Attends work and arrives to work on time.
  • Maintains confidentiality.
  • Adheres to the Tennessee Teacher Code of Ethics.
  • Assist in maintaining training documentation.
  • Assist with telecommunication inventory by building.
  • Work evenings and weekends, sometimes with little advanced notice to resolve problems.
  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as necessary or as assigned.

Qualifications
Knowledge/Education/Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED supplemented by vocational/technical training in network support required.
  • Two (2) years of telecommunication/network support experience preferred.
  • Basic working knowledge of and experience with Microsoft infrastructure and networking technologies preferred.
  • Certifications in Microsoft preferred.
  • Or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position.

Skills/Abilities:
  • Operate a motor vehicle to conduct site visits, perform repair/maintenance work, pick up or deliver computer components, or perform other work activities.
  • Demonstrates sufficient manual dexterity to operate machinery, equipment, and tools.
  • Responsibilities sometimes require working evenings and weekends, sometimes with little advanced notice.

Salary is based on a combination of relevant education and experience.
