Job description

Primary Purpose:

Responsible for the administration of district Mobile Device Management (MDM) solutions, core software systems, and network infrastructure. This role ensures that student and staff devices, classroom technology, and supporting network environments are secure, up-to-date, and performing efficiently.

Desired Qualifications:

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, management information systems, or a related fieldor equivalent hands-on experience in systems or network administration.

Certifications (preferred):

  • Networking Certification (e.g., CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or equivalent)
  • Cybersecurity Certification (e.g., ISC2 SSCP, CompTIA Security+, or equivalent)

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of LAN, WLAN, and WAN network design, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with Mobile Device Management (MDM) systems (e.g., Jamf, Mosyle, Google Admin Console, Microsoft Intune).
  • Knowledge of directory services and identity management (e.g., Active Directory, Google Workspace).
  • Knowledge of network hardware, servers, printers, and peripheral equipment.
  • Ability to manage and support multiple operating systems (Windows, macOS, ChromeOS, iOS) and network protocols.
  • Strong diagnostic and analytical skills to resolve complex system and network issues.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Experience:

  • 3 years of experience in systems, network, or endpoint administration (K-12 or educational environment experience preferred).

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Systems & Endpoint Management

  • Oversee the installation, configuration, testing, and maintenance of network hardware, operating systems, and core software upgrades.
  • Administer District Mobile Device Management (MDM) platforms to manage, deploy, and secure student and staff devices (e.g., Chromebooks, iPads, laptops).
  • Monitor and analyze system utilization and network performance; recommend improvements as needed.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain security protocols across all district systems, networks, and cloud environments.
  • Maintain reliable backup procedures for critical district data and conduct routine restoration tests.
  • Assist in the development, testing, and implementation of the district's disaster recovery plan.

Technical Support & Vendor Relations

  • Serve as the primary escalation point for complex technical issues escalated by computer technicians.
  • Act as a liaison with software and hardware vendors to maintain product support, licensing, and service agreements.
  • Consult with campus/district staff to identify technology needs, analyze system requirements, and resolve operational issues.
  • Develop and maintain clear documentation for network design, system configurations, and standard operating procedures.

District Compliance & Administration

  • Evaluate, test, and recommend the acquisition of software, hardware, and network infrastructure to meet district needs.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all required technical reports, system logs, and compliance records.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rules, and local board policy (including student data privacy regulations).
  • Follow established district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Assign, coordinate, and review the daily work of network and computer technicians.

  • Tools/Equipment Used: Hand tools and test instruments for electronic repairs and cable installations; standard office equipment including personal computers and peripherals
  • Posture: Prolonged sitting; regular kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting
  • Motion: Repetitive hand motion; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; regular walking, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, reaching; may climb ladders
  • Lifting: Regular moderate lifting and carrying (up to 44 pounds); occasional heavy lifting and carrying (45 pounds and over)
  • Environment: Work is performed in an office environment; frequent on-call and after-hours work; occasional districtwide travel; may be required to be on-call 24 hours a day.
  • Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; emotional control under stress
