Job description

Overview
There's never been a better time to join the shipbuilding industry. As demand for cutting edge naval technology grows, General Dynamics Electric Boat is at the forefront - designing, building, and maintaining the most advanced submarines in the world. Our work is mission-critical, supporting the U.S. Navy and strengthening national security.
About Department 422 Integrated Logistics Support
The Department 422 Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) organization supports all non-nuclear Electric Boat submarine programs for the COLUMBIA Class and VIRGINIA Class. The six discipline groups that provide support include: Environmental, Safety, and Occupational Health (ESOH) groups comprised of System Safety and Software Safety, Obsolescence Management Team (OMT), Reliability, Availability and Maintainability (RAM), Ship Specification Development, Stowages, and Systems Integration.
Role Overview
D422 Obsolescence Management Team is looking for a motivated individual to support the execution of the obsolescence management plan for the VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA Class submarines. The goal of obsolescence management is to actively manage and mitigate contractor furnished equipment obsolescence while maintaining construction cost and schedule, as well as to support the lifecycle sustainment of contractor furnished equipment by working with the Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortages (DMSMS) Community. Obsolescence, as defined by the VIRGINIA and COLUMBIA Class ship specifications, is when a part is no longer in production, not maintainable through sparing, or no longer commercially supported or available.
The Obsolescence Management Team has an obligation to monitor, validate, notify, and support the technical mitigation of potential obsolescence issues. Mitigation steps should maintain an enterprise approach to mitigate risk to all platforms, regardless of lifecycle phase. The Obsolescence Management Team is responsible for soliciting all relevant information applicable to an obsolescence issue and consolidating it in a central database for tracking and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
The individual selected for this position will be accountable for managing obsolescence on specific submarine systems assigned to them. This includes proactive monitoring of engineering Bills of Material (BOMs), solicitation of vendor information, and the supporting of resolution actions including the technical writing of engineering white-papers and presentations for customer review. Routine interaction with Engineering, Program Office, Purchasing, Materials, Contracts, Naval Undersea Warfare Center Keyport, and Naval Sea Systems Command is required. Perform metrics analysis and create reports.
