Job Purpose & Scope

Contributes to the overall quality of risk management across Bank OZK. Monitors and analyzes risk data to identify emerging risks and trends, and provides updates and reports to leadership to support decision making around risk mitigation strategies and process improvement.


Essential Job Functions
  1. Provides analytics support to leadership, using tools such as SAS, R, VBA, PL/SQL, and PowerBI.
  2. Queries against existing data repositories and performing technical analyses supporting Corporate Risk Management Group’s (CRMG) view of risk at the enterprise level.
  3. Helps leadership create monthly/quarterly risk dashboards.
  4. Establishes rapport and partners with CRMG peers and risk owners in the first line of defense to understand and develop forward looking key risk indicators to measure the range of current and future risk against an established risk appetite continuum (low, moderate, high).
  5. Understands the risk appetites of the BASEL risk categories, including how the risk appetite influences The Bank’s strategy, business tactics, and general risk-taking posture in its pursuit of driving shareholder return and preserving shareholder value.
  6. Develops independent methodologies to validate and enhance existing key risk indicators, ensuring their accuracy and reliability as reported by the designated risk owners.
  7. Leverages existing or creates new supplemental measures that support and inform key risk indicators to provide greater transparency around risk triggers and risk drivers.
  8. Documents workflows and procedures supporting the governance related measuring, monitoring, analyzing and reporting on risk in the context of the risk appetite framework.
  9. Creates or contributes to educational materials (PowerPoint presentations or multi-media presentations) for the express purpose of educating stakeholders on the three lines of defense, components of the enterprise risk management framework, general risk appetite, risk -specific risk appetite, and key risk indicators. Delivers risk education to business unit managers and staff.
  10. Participates in projects, process re-engineering, automation, and system development efforts owned directly by CRMG or otherwise in the capacity of a subject matter expert on a team supporting the first line of defense’s initiatives.
  11. Contributes to the emerging risk survey program to gauge perceptions around emerging risk and incorporate risk measurements into CRMG’s formal quarterly risk profile reports.
  12. Provides data-driven advice, consultation and risk management support according to The Bank’s risk frameworks and tools.
  13. Supports leadership and business unit managers with risk information, analyses, and reporting. Communicates and escalates matters of significant risk as appropriate.
  14. Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  1. Knowledge in SAS, VBA, R, Python, SQL, and Power BI.
  2. Knowledge of banking operations and financial services.
  3. Knowledge of the financial services regulatory environment.
  4. Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, including the ability to relay technical information to nontechnical audiences.

Basic Qualifications
  1. Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, computer or data science, business analytics or related field, and 1+ years of experience working with risk, data, or business analytics and/or reporting, OR Master’s degree in the above fields, and 6+ months of the above work experience, preferred.
  2. Experience in a financial services environment preferred.
