What are computer software jobs?

Computer software jobs refer to careers focused on designing, developing, testing, and maintaining software applications or systems. These roles can include software engineers, developers, testers, quality assurance analysts, and system architects. Professionals in this field work with programming languages and software tools to create solutions for computers, mobile devices, or web platforms. Computer software jobs exist across various industries, including technology, finance, healthcare, and entertainment. These roles often require strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and knowledge of coding languages.

What engineers make $500,000?

Senior software engineers, especially those in specialized fields like machine learning, data science, or working at large tech companies, can earn $500,000 or more annually through base salary, bonuses, and stock options. Achieving this level typically requires extensive experience, advanced skills, and often working in high-cost-of-living regions or at companies with competitive compensation packages.

Which software job is the highest paid?

Software engineering roles such as software architects, machine learning engineers, and solutions architects tend to be among the highest paid in the industry. These positions often require advanced skills in programming, system design, and experience with cloud platforms, and they typically offer higher salaries compared to other software-related roles.

Overview

CAD TECH

Location: Apache Junction, AZWork Type: Full-time, In-person (No remote work offered)About WW Clyde

WW Clyde is a recognized leader in heavy civil construction, known for tackling tough infrastructure projects with innovative solutions. We are committed to pushing the boundaries of construction technology to drive efficiency and excellence on our job sites. From advanced GPS grade control systems to cutting-edge 3D modeling and Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools, we invest heavily in the latest tech to stay at the forefront of the industry. As we expand our Construction Technology Group - with the goal of building the best heavy civil construction technology team in the world - we are seeking a highly skilled CAD Technician to join us on this journey of innovation. This role is a key part of our technology leadership, shaping how we leverage digital modeling across all our heavy civil projects.

Job Summary

The Heavy Civil - CAD Technician will be the champion of our digital modeling and CAD efforts company-wide. In this position, you will oversee the creation and maintenance of detailed construction models for large-scale heavy civil projects (such as highways, bridges, earthworks, and utilities). You will work with a team of CAD technicians/modelers and collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and surveyors to ensure our models are accurate, up-to-date, and optimized for field use. As the CAD Technician, you will combine deep technical expertise with strong leadership and project management skills. You'll be hands-on with state-of-the-art software (Trimble Business Center, Civil 3D, SketchUp, and more), while also developing standards and workflows that streamline our processes. This role involves guiding the team in building 3D surfaces and utility models, integrating survey data, supporting BIM initiatives, and delivering models that drive GPS machine control and layout in the field. If you are an experienced CAD/BIM professional who understands heavy civil construction workflows and enjoys mentoring others, this is a unique opportunity to lead innovation on projects that shape the infrastructure of the Intermountain West.

Key Responsibilities

  • 3D Model Creation & Management: Lead the development of comprehensive 3D models for heavy civil construction projects, including surface terrain models, roadway alignments, utility networks, and structural components as needed. Ensure all models are precise and construction-ready for use in the field (machine control, staking, visualization, etc.).
  • Software & Technology Utilization: Leverage advanced CAD and modeling software daily - primarily Trimble Business Center (TBC) and other Trimble ecosystem tools - alongside Autodesk Civil 3D, SketchUp, and related programs. Use these tools to process survey data, integrate design files, and produce high-quality models and drawings.
  • Workflow & Standards Development: Establish and maintain CAD/BIM standards, templates, and workflows for the Construction Technology Group. Streamline the process of updating models to reflect design changes, as-builts, and project modifications. Implement version control and quality checks to ensure model integrity throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Collaboration & Coordination: Work closely with project teams (estimators, engineers, project managers, and field supervisors) to gather requirements and data for model creation. Integrate engineering plans and survey information into cohesive models. Facilitate model reviews with stakeholders to confirm accuracy and identify any issues early.
  • Support Construction Operations: Coordinate with field crews and the surveying team to deploy models for GPS machine control systems and layout. Troubleshoot and refine models based on field feedback or unforeseen site conditions. Ensure that digital models effectively guide on-site construction activities and improve efficiency.
  • Team Leadership & Mentorship: Train, and mentor a team of CAD technicians. Maintain a high standard of work quality across all modeling projects. Provide hands-on training in software tools (Trimble, Civil 3D, etc.) and best practices for construction modeling. Foster an environment of continuous learning and innovation within the team.
  • Technology Strategy & Innovation: Stay abreast of emerging trends in construction technology, CAD, and BIM for heavy civil projects. Evaluate new software, tools, or processes (such as drone photogrammetry, 4D modeling, or AR/VR applications for construction) and provide recommendations. Play a key role in our technology strategy by piloting new initiatives and driving adoption of tools that give WW Clyde a competitive edge.
  • Cross-Department Collaboration: Partner with IT and other departments to ensure the CAD team has the hardware, software, and support needed. Coordinate software licensing, upgrades, and troubleshoot technical issues related to modeling tools. Work with the safety and quality teams to integrate any relevant data (like utility locating information or safety models) into project plans.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Heavy Civil Construction Experience: 5+ years of experience in heavy civil construction, survey, construction modeling, or related CAD/BIM roles. Proven track record of building and managing digital terrain models and utility models for large civil projects (e.g., highways, roads, earthwork, pipelines, bridges).
  • Trimble Expertise: High proficiency with Trimble Business Center (TBC) is required, including experience with Trimble GPS/machine control workflows and other Trimble products (such as total stations, GNSS receivers, or Trimble Connect). Ability to process survey data and create models that interface with Trimble field equipment is essential.
  • CAD/BIM Software Skills: Skills in Autodesk Civil 3D for civil design and modeling. Strong proficiency with SketchUp and other CAD or BIM software. Familiarity with additional tools like AutoCAD, Navisworks, or Revit (for infrastructure) is a plus. Ability to quickly learn and implement new software or technology as needed.
  • Construction Workflow Knowledge: Deep understanding of heavy civil construction processes and how digital models support each phase. Knowledge of grading techniques, utility installation, road construction, and how survey and design data translate into field execution. Experience updating models to reflect design revisions and producing as-built models/documentation.
  • Leadership & Mentoring: Demonstrated leadership abilities managing a technical team. Experience training, mentoring, or supervising CAD drafters/modelers or survey staff. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to lead a team and to collaborate with project managers, engineers, and field personnel.
  • Project Management: Strong organizational and project management skills. Ability to handle multiple projects' modeling needs simultaneously and meet deadlines. Detail-oriented mindset to ensure accuracy and quality in all model deliverables.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geomatics, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred (or equivalent combination of education and extensive experience). Professional certifications or training in CAD/BIM, surveying, or Trimble technology are advantageous.
  • Innovative Mindset: Passion for construction technology and innovation. A self-driven individual who stays updated on industry advancements and is eager to implement better solutions. Problem-solving attitude with the flexibility to adapt to new tools and methodologies.
