IT Apps Designer in  GAC Savannah


Unique Skills:

DUTIES: Design, develop, test, and implement application software including client, server, and middleware. Design and build algorithms and data structures. Be responsible for application performance monitoring and tuning. Create software design at the component level based on the application architecture and detailed business requirements. Develop algorithms and data structures. Develop strategies for the monitoring, preventive maintenance, and disaster recovery of applications. Serve as technical expert in at least one application within a portfolio. Assure solution designs meet requirements for scalability, performance, and quality in accordance with negotiated service level agreements. Participate in the assessment and resolution of software defects. Assist project management with the development of work breakdown structures, project plans, and skills required to develop and implement applications. Participate in design reviews for implementation projects. Conduct technical evaluations. Participate in the review, business case development, and implementation of software development tools, methodology, and software development standards. Understand IS Security measures and current standards, practices, and technology. Serve as liaison with suppliers for sustaining activities. Assist with evaluation and recommendations regarding purchased software packages and supporting services. Use knowledge of technology and existing systems to mentor junior staff on building and maintaining application systems. Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical field required. Six years of experience as an IT professional with broad experience across multiple IT disciplines required, including: expertise in one or more software languages; experience with system lifecycle methodologies and with software development tools and standards; experience working in teams; experience with MS Office, Capital Harness Systems (CHS), and Application Program Interfaces (APIs); experience identifying tasks which require automation; experience explaining complex procedures; experience writing proposals and making presentations to internal customers and professional peers; and experience providing technical direction for application development teams. In lieu of a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical field, the Employer will accept a Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical field and four years of the above-listed experience or a Ph.D. in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related technical field and two years of the above-listed experience. Must pass credit history check. Must have legal authority to work in the U.S. EEOE.

Position Purpose: Designs, develops, tests and implements application software including client, server and middleware. This includes designing and building algorithms and data structures and application performance monitoring and tuning.

  2. IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) exposure is desired.
  3. Solid understanding of system lifecycle methodologies, software development tools and standards.
  4. Experience working in teams.
  5. Proficiency with an Integrated Development Environment (IDE) desired.
  6. Proficiency with MS Office.
  7. Ability to solve problems quickly and completely. Ability to identify tasks which require automation.
  8. Strong inter-personal and communication skills; must be capable of explaining complex procedures in writing or verbally. Must be able to write proposals and make presentations to internal customers and professional peers.
  9. Provides technical direction for application development teams.
  10. A Masters degree may be used to offset one year of experience; PhD may offset two years of experience.
A credit history check from a national credit bureau will be conducted for all candidates for this position including new hires and current employees seeking promotion or transfer. This job requires one to be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
