Spring 2027 Paid Onsite Internship: Youth Development/Computer Science
Do you have a passion for working with youth AND technology? Join Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee in this PAID internship program. This experience is designed for someone with a desire to impact youth through expanding their knowledge on coding concepts, technology, STEM, and app development!
Key Objectives
Boys & Girls Clubs of Middle Tennessee is in search of Computer Science Interns (CSI) to join the Code Academy team in Davidson County. Work alongside students at Code Academy to teach coding concepts and app design. Spring Code Academy coding clubs take place from February - April. Training provided on conducting sessions, curriculums, and effective teaching skills. Identify a need within the program and develop an internship project as a solution or collaborate on a current app design project.
This is GREAT for your resume/portfolio as well as the youth we serve!
Required Qualifications:
โ€ข High school diploma or GED
โ€ข 1 to 2 years of experience working with children and/or youth
โ€ข Interest in or understanding of coding concepts and app design
โ€ข Knowledge of computers, applications, and basic knowledge of virtual platforms such as Zoom & Teams
โ€ข Excellent communication skills
โ€ข Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment
โ€ข Must pass a background check
Preferred Qualifications:
โ€ข Bachelor's or Associate's degree, or certification preferred, or working toward degree in related field
โ€ข Previous coding experience and teaching others about coding
โ€ข 1-2 years of experience working with iOS programs, applications, and Apple products
โ€ข Knowledge of youth development
โ€ข CPR and First Aid Certifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
โ€ข Maintain close, daily contact with club staff, volunteers, members (youth), to receive / provide information,
discuss issues, explain guidelines and instructions.
โ€ข Instruct, advise, mentor, and counsel club members.
โ€ข Ability to create and implement daily engaging activities on our virtual platforms.
โ€ข Tech savvy; development of creative activities or projects
โ€ข Xcode knowledge/experience is a plus!
Schedule: Hours range from 5-15 hours per week depending on program needs.
