Tenure-Track Assistant Professor, Sports Media- Department of Advertising
The Charles H. SandageDepartment of Advertising in the College of Media at the University of IllinoisUrbana-Champaign invites applicants for a full-time (100% FTE) tenure-trackassistant professor position. We seek a scholar whose research examinessports and media in a rapidly evolving media landscape. The expected startdate is August 16, 2027.Successful applicants should demonstrate a promisingrecord of scholarship and an eagerness to contribute to the department'sresearch, teaching, service, and public engagement missions.
This search is part of acluster hiring initiative in the College of Media, with each of its academicdepartments-Advertising, Journalism, and Media & Cinema Studies-conductingan independent search for an assistant professor whose scholarship and teachingalign with the priorities of their respective departments. Together, thesehires will build on our strengths and expand ourexpertise in sports media. Ideal candidates for the Advertising positionwill have research and teaching interests in areas such as:
  • Sports and public relations
  • Athletes and personal branding, sports and social media, NIL, sports influencers

Teachingresponsibilities will include courses in the department's existingundergraduate and graduate curricula, including our new B.A. in SportsMedia, with the potential to develop new electives. Advertising facultyalso actively contribute to the College of Media's interdisciplinary doctoralprogram in the Institute of Communications Research (ICR).

Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic position, appointed on a 9/12-month basis. The expected start date is August 16, 2027. The salary for this position is $80,000-$90,000. Salary will be competitive and commensurate with the candidate's qualifications, rank, and experience while considering internal equity. This position is eligible for sponsorship forwork authorization, except for sponsorship of a new H1B petition that wouldincur the $100,000 fee.
